What's on your bucket list?
http://www.businessinsider.com/exper...0-2014-12?op=1
I like this list regardless of age and am proud to have done a few myself. Anyone spend New Year's in London (not me) or drink champagne in Champagne (nope again)? How does the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express compare to other train rides in Europe or the rest of the world?

You sort of asked this before

(done all three of the things you mention -- only my trip on the Orient Express was decades ago when it was only a semi-big deal)

This is a timely thread for me because lately I've been thinking a lot about what trip I want to ring in my 40th birthday with (which I can see on the horizon at this point). But yes it's nice regardless of age.
I've done a few on the list, there are some that don't interest me. There are some I did very recently (quit smoking-yay!) and at least one I'm doing next month. I feel pretty well on track
For my 40th birthday trip my strategy is to choose something my husband would normally resist but will throw me a bone and go along with it because it is my (big) birthday. So a safari/city trip to South Africa is a major contender. Have some thoughts on Vietnam & Thailand as well.
My near future list is Basque Country, Istria & Dalmation Coast and Mexico. And within that I want a biking holiday and a bit of sailing-this is my current obsession.
But of course ask me tomorrow and I'll have a whole new set of big ideas
I hope someone chimes in on the Venice Simplon Orient Express.

Reach my "365 days in Europe" milestone. My best estimate right now is about 240 so that is allmost 2/3 of the way. And that is time pilfered from raising three kids, "regular" family vacations, non stop working, etc..
Once retired I will start the clock over and see if I can get another 2 or 3 years in. Becoming fluent in German, by studying in Germany, should help that along.
I was "so" born on the wrong continent!

A rather erratic list..
..I have done a few things of the list, some were really great (like the African safaris), some were outright disappointing (like grilled steak in Argentina and Brasil) and some belong to my regular activities (like eating in Michelin-star restaurants, drinking 100$ wines and skiing in the Alps).
When it comes to Europe, there is nothing really appealing in the list. The last thing that I would recommend is riding the Simplon-Orient-Express.

This is such an individual thing.... I just feel fortunate to have been able to do a number of things on my bucket list. I think maybe it is most important to play by your own rules rather than someone else's. Everyone has their own bucket list and maybe some of the happiest people don't want anything more than their everyday life. I don't mind the list. I have done many of them, but only because they were on my own list.
