WHAT TO WEAR/BRING TO BUDAPEST IN EARLY OCTOBER
I will be flying out to Budapest first week of October and would like to know what I should pack for this trip. We're flying business class but I still only wish to pack items for carry on luggage with an accompanying tote and handbag. What would be absolute essentials to bring with me for this trip? For example umbrella, gloves, scarf, sweaters, light clothing etc.?
I bought suitcase organizers which are plastic zipped bags that minimize space for travel. I also have a special spray that should take out any creased clothes. Please let me know what you think on this subject. Thank you.

How long will you be there?
Check with Weather Underground and Accuweather a few days before you leave. Their forecast will be far more accurate than any answers you get this month.
As is, I think your plan is fine.

Unless you come from a tropical climate I don;t think you need gloves, scarves or a heavier weight coat that time of year.
I would have a small folding umbrella and 2 pairs of comfy waterproofed walking shoes (if one gets wet you won't want to wear the next day. Have a couple of sweaters and long/short sleeve tops so you can layer under a fairly light weight jacket.
But agree to check the weather a couple of days before you leave to be sure what the latest info is.

I have been there in late October. It was a little chilly but not enough for a heavy coat, scarves and gloves. I have also been there in mid September and the weather was perfect. If I were going in early October I would expect pleasant days and a light jacket for evenings. A travel umbrella is a must for almost any trip.

Add or subtract layers of clothing according to the conditions. I visited in mid-October and found most days to be bright but occasionally chilly. Sidewalk cafes will all be open, often with free blankets and portable heaters in case of brisk evenings. I disagree about a light scarf. It's always useful as an accessory, if nothing else, in all seasons except the dead heat of summer. Men and women alike. And of course an umbrella.

Thank you all for your advice. I got a chuckle from Dukey1's comment, quite clever! I didn't know they provided blankets/ portable heaters on cool nights for customers. Southam, you learn something new every day. P_M I will certainly bring an umbrella...however when I do, it never rains... go figure.

Leah, we were in Budapest in the middle of October. I just checked my photos. A couple of sunny days and a rainy, windy day. We were wearing medium weight jackets. Again, layering works well. Had no trouble communicating in English and if not, the locals were always able to find someone who could help. We had some problems with taxi drivers in Budapest. Live and learn.

Leah4, the only reason I recommend bringing an umbrella is to make sure it doesn't rain. When we went to Ireland I bought 2 travel umbrellas for the trip and we never once opened them. (Believe it or not, we had 10 days in Ireland and not a drop of rain.) Be sure to buy an expensive umbrella, those seem to work best as a rain deterrent.
Enjoy your trip, I love Budapest.

Treesa, thank you for this information. Great to know that we'll be understood in English over there. Unfortunately, I will have no choice but to contend with local taxi behaviour. If you aren't already aware from my previous posts on this site, I have recently torn my meniscus and will probably only be seen by an orthopedic surgeon when I get back from our trip. I certainly won't be walking much with this damn disability! In the meantime, I'm limping about with a patella knee support, to relieve my discomfort and pressure. P_M, your recommendation regarding the umbrella is duly noted. You are 'soooo right' about bringing an umbrella. I was in Ireland with hubby and a bunch of friends a few years ago, and made the mistake of not bringing an umbrella, boy did it rain the week we were there for St. Patty's! Thank you both again!
