What to wear in Greece in September...
I am going to Athens Greece and several of the islands in the middle of next month. I'm wondering if you can still wear white and more colorful clothes there and sandals at this time of year.

I've never been there and want to take the proper clothes with me. Thanks for your help.

Mom,

Dress is quite casual on Greek islands. Colorful clothing, sandals etc. will be fine. You can confidently wear white after Labor Day without committing any fashion faux pas! Evenings can be cool and breezy so a light sweater is also a good idea. Have a great time!

I suggest you wear as little as possible. I was in Santorini 2 weeks ago and thought I would boil to death.

Seriously though, the Greek Islands are beach/package holiday heaven and anything goes - but definately casual (shorts, bikini, sarong, shorts, strappy vest, shorts, flipflops, topless bathing etc etc)

We were there in October last year and accidentally brought way too heavy clothes... ended up buying a bunch of new stuff, sun dresses, sandals, husband bought some light cotton slacks, shirt and sandals as well. For some reason I had assumed it would be chillier in October, but it was hot enough to swim in the ocean (both in Athens and all of the islands we visited) although it did rain a few times it was more of a 'hot, tropical' type of rain, not a cold, autumn rain. I needed a sweatshirt for a couple of eveings. Overall we found Greece to be much more casual then the rest of Europe.
