In the middle of November, daylight will be short, that limits your options.

I suggest you drive from Frankfurt to Bingen, and pick up the road that paralells the Rhein on its west embankment, going downriver. The pretty part is between Bingen and Koblenz, some 50 or so miles.

In Koblenz, if you still have the time, head west along the Mosel toward Cochem. Drive as far as time permits, then turn around and just west of Koblenz catch the Autobahn A-61 south to exit 49, where you switch back to the Autobahn A-60 and return the way you came from Frankfurt.

If the boats are still running you may want to just drive to Assmannhausen and grab a Rhine River cruise across the street from the Krone Hotel. It would be relaxing way to see the area. The time of year may be the problem.

The K-D winter cruises are very few and don't run at all unless a minimum # of passengers has called ahead. It's too chilly to be sitting out on a boat deck for hours. But there's nothing to prevent you from having a nice driving tour of the area and making a few stops.

I'd advise driving north on the west bank and return along the east bank. Most sights are on the west side. Make stops in Bacharach, St. Goar (Rheinfels Castle, open weekends only after 11/11,) and Boppard on the west bank. I'd bypass Koblenz and continue to Remagen, where you can visit the WW II museum (open until 11/15)

Then ferry across from Remagen (ferries run all day) with the car to the most attractive of the Rhine towns, Linz am Rhein. From there, head south, making a stop in Braubach (Marksburg Castle, open all year)

Any drive along the Rhine as suggested above will be great, provided weather cooperates and you have light. If you can get to Marksburg in whatever time you have, I'd strongly recommend it.

In Assmannshausen you will find the best red wine of the region.
