We are currently in Aix-en-Provence and driving to CT tomorrow (Friday). I just checked weather.com and it looks like we will run into a bunch of rain. Does anyone have any suggestions for activities in the rain? I'm going to be very disappointed if we can't hike the trails, but hoping for the best.
Speedy replies appreciated... we will be there tomorrow and only have computer access tonight!
Thanks,
Deb

Go to Portofino, hop a train or drive to Genoa...explore the Riviera and gems like Rapallo, day trip to Pisa, hole up in your hotel...drive to Carrara and marble factories...
Maybe it will just rain for a little while. Be aware that footing can be treacherous on some trails, especially if wet. The rock stairs, for example, between Corniglia and Vernassa would be dangerous. The first, short trail called Lover's Trail (or something like that) would be easily doable, I think. Take care with the others. See our thread about the trails, for specifics about each one--

If it's really raining, you can take the train between the towns, to enjoy time in each town. They are unique and interesting. Probably lovely in the rain even.
Enjoy your trip. Here's hoping for sunny skies!
Don't they have wineries there? You'll forget about the rain
Two words' FOOD and WINE- within sight of the waves hitting the coast, it's actually nice in the rain, very calm and few other tourists.
Thanks all! I'm hoping for sunshine, but will take whatever comes our way and will just be glad to be there. Maybe Portovenere? I'll let you know!

Hi abqdeb We will be there Saturday so we are praying for sunshine. We are staying two nights in Monterosso.
My favorite memory of the Cinque Terre is spending a rainy afternoon in Vernanza at Gambero Rosso. Great food and vino along with new friendships as we enjoyed the "snuggy" atmosphere.
I also enjoyed eating at Gambero Rosso. I agree with those who say take the train between towns to visit them. And eat!
My only suggestion is to be under cover, at a ristorante and looking out. Portovenere is great, however, lots of walking around stuff outside (the fortress, Lord Byron's grotto, etc) and all the wonderful little ristorantes fronting the harbor have open terraces for viewing. It will be a bummer if it is drizzling!
Maybe you could go into La Spezia and do some shopping in the stores and boutiques there, then when the rain lets up, venture into one of the Cinque Terre towns. Have fun whatever you decide to do!
Michelene,
We'll be looking for you! We'll be in Levanto though. We had to buy a giant umbrella in Isle Sur la Sorgue due to the rain so we'll be prepared!
On our way now, so will let you all know what happens. Thanks for the continued help.
