We're on a cruise that will be stopping in Ancona. What are the pleasant things to do from there? Is Ancona a pleasant beach town or is it just mainly commercial? What are the main things to do/see in Urbino? Thank you.

In Urbino I just enjoyed the whole town as a wondrous old town, one of the finest through and through that I've been in - there is an old palace and the usual old church but just wandering around the ancient cobbled streets was what I loved. Not a town with a zillion must sees IMO.
Came into Ancona just a basic port town...no beach I saw
Urbino prettier by far head there...
Head for Rimini up the coast best beach I have been to there.
Bookmarking for any responses you get - we are heading to Le Marche next June!
The Palazzo Ducale of Urbino houses one of the most important Renaissance museums in Italy. Don't miss the "studiolo", the private office of the Duke of Montefeltro.
Urbino is great, but other pleasant things to do include a visit to Jesi with its stunning medieval castles and walls and its nearby wineries

San Marino I found delightful as well, in spite of huge day tripping crowds of Italians coming to buy cheaper tobacco and booze and such. Really smashing hill top location in lovely countryside.
