What to do-connecting through Barcelona at midnight and leave next morning

Jump to last reply

My fiance and I booked plane tickets to Italy for Christmas. It's our first time to Europe. The returning flight home is from Rome to Barcelona to JFK. We will get in to Barcelona at 11:30pm and leave the following morning at 11am. What should we do about the overnight situation? We're on tight budget traveling, so definitely don't want to spend a lot of money for cab and hotel for just a few hours of sleep.

Any nearby hotels/motels with reasonable price to recommend? Can we sleep in the terminal for a night? Either way, I think it would be nice to get out of the airport for breakfast and come back. Is there easy public transportation to get out of the airport? If so, where should we go? Will the checked bags continue onto the next flight or do we have to pick them up for the night and check them in again in the morning?

Many thanks!
