What time to check in?

We will be staying in 2 hotels and 2 farmhouse B&B and haven't the foggiest idea what time is appropriate and proper for us to check in. No one from any of these places has mentioned anything about a check in time and I don't want to be rude by showing up too early or too late. Any clue?

At most places if you come in early you can leave your bags in a secure area if the room is not ready. Most check-ins are officially in the afternoon, but I have often arrived earlier, and if my room is ready, no problem. (Also, if you request a late checkout, usually it isn't a big problem at hotels, up until 2 or so.) You can always email, or fax or call to ask if it bothers you. Phone rates are low when the questions are to the point.

2 to 5 pm is always going to be well received. 11 am to 2 pm or 5 to 8 pm, it would be good manners to check ahead of time. Outside these times, you BETTER specifically inquire.

No need to fret. You will not be considered rude, and as a previous poster said, you can leave you bags there. However, if there's a chance that you will be arriving late, it's perhaps best to let them know in advance just to play safe, especially if you're going during the busy season. <BR>In general, no matter where you're going, it's always smart to let the facility know if you're going to arrive late.

Thank you for your replies, they are all very helpful and exactly what I was looking for. We planned on arriving between 2-5pm and for the farmhouses plan on e-mailing them before we leave to let them know this. Thanks again!
