No it isn't bad. They are topping to keep the subject active until there is a response.

A similar action is "flagging" It brings a post to the top and marks it so the flagger will find it when checking their threads.

No, its not bad. Many people actually do it as a courtesy to others. Its just a way to bump your post back to the top of the list in the hopes it gets noticed and generates more responses.

I see an irony here when I wrote responses I was correcting myself for response written originally incorrectly-but i see "responses" as kinda a double topping-kinda funny

Topping for a good reason is OK, but topping frivolously is inconsiderate to the other posters whose post will be pushed lower.

As a fairly new user, I've been keeping an eye on topping etiquette. Clearly not cool to top just in hopes people will respond to one's witty reply, but it looks like it's OK to top one's own original post, unless it's clear it's not a topic that is drawing interest.

I also saw a recent top where it was done so that the topper could later find the post by searching by using his/her name.

My favorite topping is hot fudge with walnuts..

oops! sorry, Keeping ones post at the top or on the first page is helpful, but sometimes, posts need to drop so it is good if no one tops them.

Topping is the stuff that goes on your ice cream.
Too much is bad for your health. Too little is disappointing. But "just the right amount" can make your day.

I top my own posts on occasion if they don't get any and/or few responses. A lot of times topping can lead to numerous responses if I wait and "top" later on in the day or evenng. It just depends on who is on the board at the time of the post.

And Scarlett, my favorite topping is a hot, thick homemade caramel sauce with lots of pecans!

there is no world ethiket rules on 'topping'post specially in 24 hours International forum where your message can get lost unanswered because somebody where sleeping and you have all rights to TOP it for those who just woke up in Europe let say and you can kind of say 'look at my post, yo' I am topping it for you, please, answer to me.

There is some last year toppings people find usefull and our search sucks badly so if you really need to top something - top it, it is ok to top if topping is absolutely nessesary. No harm in topping, at least i don't think so...anyone with examples of harmfull topping maybe, so please, share, do not let people hang there with question unanswered, please...

Topping is only bad when you do it to resurrect a thread that should have died back in 1998.

Then we label you a "troll" -- one of those ugly things that sits under a bridge to cause mayhem.

Happy travels,

Jules

laughingd2 and Keith - It's not necessary to top or flag your own posts to find them. All you need to do is click on your screen name and all your posts will appear in the left-hand column.
