What is the best way to get from Positano to Capri
Staying in Positano for 4 days and everyone keeps telling me we need to go to Capri for a day. I am trying to figure out the best way to get from Positano to Capri. I know at some point we will need to take a boat. Would it be better to take a boat directly from Positano to Capri or hire a driver to take us to Sorrento then catch a boat?
I would like to take a private boat tour if possible but I cannot seem to find the information online regarding details and cost.
Any suggestions?

Capri is an island. The only option is a boat.
I'm not sure why it would be a "better option" to hire a driver to Sorrento and then catch a boat from there. The only reason I can see doing that is if there are no boats going from Positano on your date. When I was in Positano there were several boats going to Capri and back, and the schedules were posted at the dock.

Boats leave from the dock to Capri all day long. Just walk down to the beach and pay your money at the correct kiosk and take the quick and lovely boat ride to Capri. This is assuming you are traveling during or near the high season.

it indeed makes for a nice excursion..briging you back to Pos for dinner...we walked to the kiosk, small boat (inside and outside seating) with 8 passengers left for a calm ride..stopped at the grottos...some opted to swim in and boat waited. Then docked at the marina before noon..ample time to explore Capri, Ana Capri, shops, restos for lunch.........met back at the boat around 4:00 for the ride back to Pos. Very nice, relaxing, scenic day...enough for me. Photo ops galore.

Several lines offer trips from the AC resorts to Capri, and at least one of them is already operating its first daily services.
To start with only one of their two is stopping in at Positano, but I'd expect them to have more by the time you're here in May.....

A private excursion all the way from Positano will cost considerably more, but picking up a local boat once there might be a good way to tour Capri's coast - if that's what you actually had in mind?

thank you for the helpful information! Do you think that it is worth it to travel to Ischia as well when we are by Capri? Not really sure what we will do while in Capri for the day besides the Blue grotto so if it is close maybe spending some time in Ischia would work to

Were you thinking of something like this perhaps?

Seriously though, on any particular day it's probably better to settle for just one island or the other, and there's no convenient way to do both!
Tucked away, as well as the shops etc, Capri has a few surprises...

But if you did want to visit, there's a daily crossing from Sorrento to here each morning...

More Ischia?
