What is the best seat on the plane?

I just wanted to post here that I found a website called www.seatguru.com that lists major airlines, and a majority of the planes they fly. Then, allows you to click on the plane type and run your cursor over selected seats to get specific info on that seat. i.e. (window is off center here and you will have to lean to look out; seat does not recline because it is exit row; seat is really noisy due to engines; etc...) I found it very useful for a 5-hour flight I scheduled. I thought the seats in the back would be good, then found out on seatguru that the engines were in the rear on that plane, and my seats would be excessively noisy. Thank heavens I was able to change seat selection on line with my airlines and now have better seats booked closer to front of aircraft. They have local and international carriers. Caveat: I do not see any Lockheed planes listed. Not sure why. I was just "browsing" thru the site when I noticed that. FYI.

Yes, I consistently look through seatguru before finalising my seat selection, esp on aircraft and airlines I'm not familiar with. What is annoying that many good seats, such as exit row and bulkhead aren't bookable, as they are either reserved to elite flyers or can only be allocated at check-in. But seatguru does save me from being placed in the worst seat!

>What is the best seat on the plane?<

Cockpit, left side.

Second best seat is cockpit, right side.

Now that there are female pilots, is it still called a "cockpit"?

I am no one of the expets but am booking right now and have done a littte homework. I have read the pivot point of the pklane is in front of the wings (of larger planes) So this is less bumpy. I know the back often is more bumpy. Fastest to get out is of-course is the front. If you have a flight where you plan to sleep (there of back during daylight hours) the north side of the plane is better as here is less sunlight. Two days ago I asked an al Italia rep the best seats for bumpiness and she said the front.

" I do not see any Lockheed planes listed. Not sure why"

The last passenger plane built by Lockheed was the L-1011 which first flew in Nov 1970. The last one was delivered in the mid 80's. ATA still flies some of 30+ in operation out of the 250 made.

Ira, it's a "flight deck"!

Ira, you of all people, living IN the South, should know there is a "name" for that certain part of the female anatomy which makes the term "cockpit" seem absolutely up-to-date.

I'll never think of the cockpit in the same way again.

I have a Q.....I looked at seatguru.com and the seat configuration didn't match what Delta or Air France was showing. I checked and double checked to make sure I was selecting the right type of aircraft. What's up with that? Any ideas? Thanks

Hi mm,

Airlines do reconfigure their planes.

Sometimes they change the equipment.

Check that your 777 wasn't changed to a 767 or something.

That's what I'm wondering.....if there's been a plane reconfiguration. I've talked with two Delta reps who have both commented on my great seats ( ok that sounds funny...haha ). I'm thinking we're in biz class, but I don't want to jinx it! haha Melissa

I’ve found that if you fly coach, a good spot on your garden-variety jetliner is the aisle seat left or right immediately after business class. You have a little more legroom than your fellow coachites. Plus, there is no one in front of you who can sardine you by reclining their seat.

Melissa,
Seatguru maps aren't always up to date. You can cross check with seatexpert.com. Both DL and AF currently have aircraft undergoing reconfigurations.

Oh, ira, just read your own question and think a minute. ESPECIALLY when it is a female pilot!!

the best seat on an airplane to Europe is the one my butt is sitting in!

Boy-o-boy I wish I were planning an adventure.

Thanks for the advice. I had never looked at seatguru before. We flew bulkhead on an international flight and nearly froze to death. Seatguru mentioned that it's cold in those seats. Now I know it wasn't just that particular flight and to dress warmly the next time.

When you put your cursor over the seat that is marked in yellow, you can read the specific problems that might arise with that seat.
