What happens on Atatürk Commemoration and Youth Day in Istanbul?

Jump to last reply

One of the day I will be in Istanbul is May 19, the Atatürk Commemoration and Youth Day. It is a national holiday. From tourist point of view how does it differ from other Tuesdays?
A few info I could find says government offices and businesses are closed. But what kind of businesses? Shops and restaurants, Grand Bazaar, Spice market?
There was also a mention of museums (I presume national museums) being free (at least some years ago for the residents) and get especially crowded?
