What do you love about Barcelona?
I had pretty much settled on Barcelona as a spring break destination. Then, I did a search of old threads and found a very long one, that apparantly went on for about a year, of people saying why they dislike Barcelona. That has made me re-think my choice.
Let me know what you love about Barcelona, or, if you really think we'll hate it, please tell me that, too!

We loved the Gaudi architecture ....in fact all the buildings had a very different look to them. There was an on and off bus that was wonderful...we stayed in the Barri Gothic neighborhood. One Sunday there was an imprompteau opera recital in a nearby alley. We loved it.
There was just a wonderful feel to the city. I don't think I want to go again but we did love it.

I just love Barcelona, was there 3 times and could go back in a minute! I love the food, the tapas, the architecture,Gaudi, the friendly spanish ( friendlier than in other spanish cities), the Boqueria market, the Paseig de Gracia, etc, etc...
My son came from Barcelona yesterday and visited it for the 1st time . He was thrilled with it, loved it there!
Just go and spring is a great time to visit it!

It's been awhile, as in 1991! However, much as I enjoyed Barcelona, I wouldn't make it my first choice for Spain. I read your posts, and know that you travel with your kids, I just feel that the south of Spain would be more enjoyable and appreciated by my kids (who are younger than yours I believe).

The architechture - simply the best city to view the Modernist movement.
I have been there three times and I adore it. Its probably my favorite large city in Europe. The people are very kind and helpful.
Please don't be put off by the negative comments. There certainly was a problem with petty crime along Las Ramblas a few years ago, but the city increased police presence the last time I visted (three years ago?). Just watch your handbag - I'd say exactly the same to anyone visiting Dublin.
Also, the best piece of advice I received here was from Maribel, who told me to get an hotel in the "L'Eixample" area and avoid the areas around Las Ramblas. This was confirmed by my collegues in Barcelona.
Please GO! Barcelona is beautiful, exciting and one of the best destinations in Western Europe.
Oh Dear, now I think I have to plan a return visit soon
Regards Ger
