WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT HANNAU GERMANY

IS THIS CITY A GOOD HOME BASE FOR TRAVELING IN THE AREA, OR ARE DOES IT HAVE WONDERFUL SIGHTS I HAVEN'T READ ABOUT - OTHER THAN THE GRIMM BROTHERS. ARE THERE HUMAN SIZED PUPPET SHOWS IN THIS AREA, OR AM I CONFUSED WITH SOMEWHERE ELSE. THANKS.

Kathy, Hannau is known for its jewelry. The German
Goldsmiths House, a 16th-century half-timbered building, has exhibits that pertain to the precious metals industry. Hannau is also home to Germany's second oldest theater, Stadthalle. Hannau is close to Frankfurt and looks like a good place to base yourself for trips to Mosel and Rhine River Valleys.

My best friend is from Hannau, and she said the
only things there are the Grimm Bros and jewelry
things. (She had never heard of human-size puppets
and didn't know what you were thinking of, but
we both agreed this sounded pretty weird!) She
said it's a pretty boring town, but is only about
15 miles from Frankfurt.

Actually, it's spelled Hanau. There is a palace there, as well as the usual old town. And let us not forget the US Army. There are several housing areas and a few installations. Never heard of life sized puppets, though.

Kathy: Visited Hanau looking for Napoleonic Battle-
field (1813). City built over it, nice city but
not much to see, large US Army base, regards, Ed
