I agree with your last sentiment

I gave my husband "between the Wind and the Water" about the ancient monuments of Orkney.

looks good to me.

I bought my wife the ebookwise.com and she loves it. It's great as she can download 10-20 books on it, making it convenient for travel. It's even got a free dictionary you can download, so if you come across a word you are unfamiliar with, tap it with the stylus and the meaning pops up on the screen. It's also great for reading at night as you don't need a lamp or book light.

If you or someone you know is an avid reader, you might want to look into this.

Now I've got to figure out what to do with the thousands of paperbacks I have stored down in the basement.

I was given "Italy for the Gourmet Traveler", by Fred Plotkin. What a great book!

Not books but DVDs from The Teaching Company (www.teach12.com):

From Monet to Van Gogh - A History of Impressionism - 24 half hour lectures

Great Artists of the Italian Renaissance - 36 half hour lectures
-----
From Recycled Books on the square in Denton, Texas for 3 WWI books:

Passchendaele and the Battles of Ypres 1914-1918 by Martin Marix Evans

The Pity of War by Niall Ferguson

Europe's Last Summer by David Fromkin
-----
Troubador Books, N. Hatfield, Ma.

A real find - Vincent Van Gogh published in 1947 by Renaissance-Verlag Bern. Contains 24 loose, 10X16, black and white lithographs with separate 16 page German text and all enclosed in a heavy linen cover.

From an old friend who knows I like to travel and, while not traveling, dream of traveling: "The Travel Book: A Journey Through Every Country In The World" published by Lonely Planet.

From another friend: "Michelangelo: The Complete Sculpture, Painting, Architecture". This friend knows I love visiting art museums, etc.

For my birthday (which is in November so close to the holidays), my BF bought me the satirical novel: "Florence of Arabia" by Christopher Buckley. Although I normally read historical fiction, I enjoyed this one a lot. Plus it was diffrent to read something where characters could actually drive/fly to their destinations rather than walk, ride in a cart, or sail on a tiny ship being tossed around as is the case in all of my historical novels.

And it was a "diffrent" spelling for "different" in my previous post!

I was given a compendium of articles, mostly from the glory days, gleaned from issues of "Gourmet" magazine, back when there were real writers.

I received a beautiful, leather-bound journal in which to record my activities and thoughts during my trip to Rome. Now that I have received so much help and advice from this forum, I feel honor-bound to provide you all with my trip report. Your own reports have provided me with hours of reading pleasure, not to mention many helpful insights and suggestions. I am truly inspired now, and this new journal will help to keep an accurate record of my adventures. And isn't amazing how quickly you do forget things unless you write them down--even if you thought you wouldn't?? Let's hear a cheer for journal writing!!

I gave my 5-year-old greatniece a copy of Adele & Simon, by Barbara McClintock. Although it's a children's book, the drawings of Paris are so lovely I was tempted to keep it for myself!
