What area of London to stay in for one month with kids?

What area of London to stay in for one month with kids?
I'll be going summer 2013 (assuming the Mayans weren't right 
, with kids ages 7 and 14. I'm hoping to rent an apt for one month but need to narrow down the area we want to stay in. I'll need something with parks nearby for the little one to run in. Of course, we need the obvious - tube stations and grocery close.
'An old thread that suggested So. Kensington. Is that still the best advice?

South Kensington is a good choice - good public transport to virtually anywhere you are likely to want to go (including Heathrow), range of attractions on the doorstep, decent restaurants.
The other area I'd consider would be Greenwich which has more of a town feel than South Kensington. Just means an awkward transfer from Heathrow (though a lot easier from Gatwick) and a bit more travelling each day.

Greenwich is easier from Gatwick than from Heathrow (trains to London Bridge, remember?). It also has the advantage of river boats (though it would be a lengthy journey and not particularly cheap, you could get there by tube to Embankment and boat to Greenwich).
But there are so many parks in London, many places would be possible. Even Bloomsbury (somewhere near Coram's Fields, though it's nowhere near as extensive as the Royal Parks or Regent's Park) might fit the bill.
If the OP is willing to consider living like a commuter, then Richmond, Putney, Battersea (near the park) would also be possible

I agree with South Kensington and also nearby Gloucester Rd. Near to Gloucester Rd tube you have a Waitrose, Tesco Express, and a Sainsbury's just down the road for your groceries. There are also banks, KFC, Burger King and several decent restaurants. The tube is on the same lines as South Kensington so you have all the same advantages. You can get Picadilly line from Heathrow or Gatwick express to Victoria which is only two stops to South Ken or three to Gloucester rd. Also both of these are only a 5 to 10 minute walk to Hyde Park.
The only disadvantage of either of these could be the price of the rental as the area is one of the more expensive parts of London.
