. We will be visiting Gozo in July, staying in a house in Munxar and would love to sample Maltese cuisine. We will also be visiting Valletta.
We are a family group of 6 adults and 3 very little children so we may be dining out at lunch time rather than in the evening when little ones get too tired. Can you recommend some really good restaurants that might be open at lunch and wouldn?t mind babies and a well behaved 3 year old? Besides Maltese cuisine,we would appreciate hearing of other favorite restaurants.
Two of our group eat fish or vegetarian, not meat or shellfish. Are there some dishes they should be sure to try? Thank you so much for any advice you can give.

About the best food I had on Malta/Gozo was a lunch at the Ta' Cenc hotel on Gozo. It was very quiet there at lunch but that was the end of April/beginning of May and not peak season. It's a large restaurant with terrace seating as well as indoor seating. Since it's a hotel they're probably used to families with children. Not only is the food good but the setting is quite lovely.
Some Maltese specialties are rabbit, beef bragioli, and lots of fish, especially octopus. I'm not a fish lover but the folks in my group who ate fish always raved about it. It always looked fresh.
The following are all good restaurants in Gozo: Ta? French (on the way to Marsalforn), Il-Girna (Sannat), Tatitas (St Lawrence), Oleander (Xaghra), Ta' Pawlu (Mgarr) and Stone Crab and Terrazza(Xlendi).
In Valletta: Giannini, Rubino, Papanis, Windsor, The Carriage and Da Pippo. For a good plate of pasta, try Sicilia (great view of the Grand Harbour), Cilianza(pizza good also) and Lantern. For the best baguettes and espresso in Valletta, head for Café Frans while Café Cordina has the best ambience. Trabixu and Castiile Wine Vaults are good wine bars.
You should not have any problems with regards to children at any of the above places.
