I've only been to Paris so far but I'll never forget how absolutely nice the people were. A couple of them went out of their way for me. I can only hope to be so sweet to people visiting my city.
Some of my favorite memories beyond sitting at outdoor cafes and enjoying great meals are:
Paris of course
Canoeing on the Dordogne
Walking the entire Cap Ferrat trail while staying in Villefranche-sur-Mer
Driving the entire length of the Gorges of Verdun
Market day in Sarlat and St Remy and Beaune
Visiting Loire Chateaus
I haven't found an area of France I would not return to.
The fountains in the Versailles gardens (only run on weekends).
Welcome to Fodors. Are you asking for yourself -- i.e. planning a trip? Or are you possibly researching for a book or a travel agent or something like that?
Just seems odd to ask it that way . . .
If you are planning a trip, maybe tell us what sorts of things you enjoy/look for and we can steer you in the right direction(s). Because my favorite memories/highlights might bore you silly.
going to Belon to taste the Famous Belon oysters near their beds,
Going to see how the fleur de sel is scooped'
Visiting the Camargue to see the wild white horses, the black bulls and the pink flamingos,
Gathering wild herbs in Provence,
Visiting a famous potter in the family's studio.
Too many, each trip had its riches.
Do you have a few years to listen to me...or do you have time to sit and read several hundred pages?
Honestly, this question made me LOL.
Hi Pbudny welcome to Fodors. I think the greatest thing was ordering Moule in the quay in Barfleur in Normandy. For Euro 7 I got a beer, bread and an enormous saucepan of moule. Pretty fresh as the fishing boat was just behind me.
Now what did you like?
Walking into the cathedral in Reims! A glass of Rose at a cafe in Barbizon. Overlooking the grounds at Versailles. The view from the towers at Notre Dame. Chenonceau in the Loire. Eating ice cream in the snow in the park behind Notre Dame...
A miliion bests and more to come!
Swimming near sunset with the light just perfect under the Pont du Gard.
