Message: Does anyone knows about Hotel and area ?

I've never heard of it before. I checked different websites and it's located near Gare de Lyon and looks like a budget hotel. Do you have to stay there or can you change it to a more convenient hotel?

Doesn't look like a winner to me. Have you searched on this site for nice, inexpensive hotels in Paris? I very much doubt you want to be just yards from the Bercy Business District.

I don't know that hotel but from what I saw online it looks like a fairly typical budget 2* hotel. That area is near the place d'Aligre which is a open air and flea market, wellknown. It's also near that new trendy covered market (Viaduc des Arts). This is a less expensive, less chic area of Paris, of course, and is more ethnic/immigrant. HEre is one description of that market:

I don't think that's so terrible a location if you really need a budget hotel, at least it's not too far out. From what I saw, that hotel is around 75 euro for a double and that's pretty cheap, and it seems decent and has amenities (cable TV, elevator). It belongs to the Atel hotel group so I don't think it will be a dump, that's a reputable hotel company (including the Relais St Germain and Abbatial St Germain).

I don't think it's so terrible. I wouldn't choose to stay there myself, but I don't know what you can get for that price in a better area or what your budget is. I wouldn't pay close to 100 euro for it, what rate are you looking at.

See, my friend in Germany - she'd made a list of hotels and while she was calling - for the April, 3 everything on the list of 10 was booked. Alcyon was the first one to except her order for 2 rooms (we have 6 people).
So, she said there were better hotels with 1 double (needed tripple) available or nothing avail. at all.
While on the phone I asked her to hold and I wentr on the web to look at Alcyon and check prices, so when I plugged in 1 Tripple room - all was sold out.
I believe it is like Easter's fault.
We were affraid to miss whatever was available, so she booked it I guess.
But she said it was $120.00 for the tripple. And I think daily passes included.

yes, I think it is Easter's fault because that is a very busy time in Paris with a lot of tourists because of vacation. As I said, if you have a reservation there, I think it will be okay and fairly convenient. Do not worry.

I can't understand witch District it is.
I need this info and no hotel booking web gives it to me.

I was also wondering
if I'll be in Hotel by Noon(check in time) - where should I run first after check in to not to waste any time?

Tat as far as figuring out what district you are in: do you have the 'zip' code of the hotel? The last 2 digits are the arrondisment i.e. 75008 is in the 8th

Judging from the address in the first post, this is in the 12th.

yes, it is the 12th district as it is right near place d'Aligre. I don't know what you want to do that day, Tat, or what you have scheduled so it is hard to say. I know you are very energetic and want to get going.

If the Marais is on your schedule, that would be the closest to get going as it isn't far at all. YOu could walk from your hotel past the Bastille Opera HOuse and see the Bastille column, cross the "place" west, and then go to the park Place des Vosges. Around here is the Marais with the Picasso Museum and the Musee Carnavalet, the National Archives in the HOtel de Soubise, and Victor Hugo's house in an apt. around the Place des Vosges.

All of those can be worthwhile, but I don't know what all you wanted to see. After that area, you could keep walking west along rue de Rivoli to see the Hotel de Ville. Those are just a few ideas.

Tat, I answered this yesterday but somehow I guess it didn't stay.

No, I would not book the Hotel Migny instead of the Alcyon. They look like they might be about the same level of hotel (decent 2*) which about the same amenties, but the Migny is up near place Pigalle and just below bd de Clichy. This is generally not a very nice area and there is a lot of sex and porno business up there and it would not be that nice for you to walk around there alone or with your children, nor to use the Pigalle metro at night. It's not very attractive, either. I think there is a higher crime rate up there, also, around Pigales and Barbes Rochechouart metro.

I don't know that one particular street, but it's only a block or so from Pigalle, and it's generally kind of drab around there (when it's not sleazy).

Aside from that, it is farther out than the Alcyon and not as convenient. Don't change hotels.

YOu can read customer comments on hotels on www.paris.org/Hotels by name or area. One person wrote something good about the Alcyon.
