Western Fjord Towns and Lodging

Will be traveling around Norway and will be spending two nights in the western fjords -- specifically in the Flam area. We will have a car. We want to generally see the scenary and take some ferry rides, etc. I am trying to decide on which town to stay in and then which hotel in that town. Would like to stay on a fjord and have a room with a view. What do folks think....Also -- my only hesitation with Flam is this will be in late June and I suspect it might be a very busy place.

Flåm will be busy, but not in the evening when all the cruise ships have left. But with a car you could consider other villages like Sogndal and Balestrand which will give you access to quieter places with more charm.

I am also doing this trip. I have booked the Stalheim one night, and trying to decide between Brekke Apartments in Flam and the Balestrand Hotel, or Aurland Hotel. Any suggestions? Will also have a car.

Elveseter hotel near Lom. Incredible. It's where you notice that the Norse gods are never far away.

I loved the Balestrand Hotel as I did the village itself. Beautiful location.Stayed at the Fretheim in Flam, and it too was excellent. It's set away from the busy port and, as dyoll said,it's quiet in the evening after the cruise ships have left.
