Wedding Anniversary Ideas in Naples area

Greetings all,

After months of reading "tripgirl"s adventures, "ira"s stories of sumptuous dining and general tips, I finally decided to pipe up and ask for your input.

My husband is stationed here, and thus, we are lucky enough to enjoy three years living in the Naples area.

We've been here since March 1, but since we both Work here, our chances for tourism are limited to weekends, and a Small Budget.

Our three year wedding anniversary is coming. On SAT Aug 19 I would like to spend a magical day with my love in the Naples area.

Unfortunately, thats the HIGH season, so prices and crowds skyrocket.

For around $200 USD Can you suggest a romantic day? I was thinking of a cruise around Naples Bay departing from Naples harbor, Lunch somewhere? and then afternoon-early evening drinks?

Any feedback would be appreciated and since we've got three summers here if we dont act upon your suggestion NOW, we certainly could in the future.

Happy Travels all, and good day!

The cruise sounds lovely - and romantic. But something to add to your "must do" list while in the Naples area, may I suggest the gardens of the Royal Palace in Caserta, just north of Naples. They are breathtakind; some say they rival Versailles.

I agree with Toni. Il Palazzo Reale (La Reggia) at Caserta would be a wonderful destination. As I recall Caserta itself is about 38 kilometers northwest of Naples and easily accessible by good roads. Besides the park which includes many unusual species from all over the world and an incredibly exquiste English garden, you must not miss the magnificent Neopolitan creche on display in the Palace. The ballroom was occupied by Allied troops and is the site where the peace treaty ending WWII was signed. Nearby high on a hilltop is the medieval town of Casertavecchia (Old Caserta) dominated by a craggy church built by the Normans circa 1100.

Its up by the Castel St Elmo and has a beautiful view of Naples from its terrace.

Thanks everyone for your excellent replies. I truly didn't want to do capri in the "high" season. We're here for a while, so there are other chances.

I found a GREAT deal at Hotel Caserta Antica, in Casertavecchia. Only $90.71 USD for one night. I have an email into them to see what *special* things they can do for our anniversary. I think a day at Caserta Palace and a night walking thru the medieval town of Casertavecchia is a great plan. The english website for the palace says they have horsedrawn carriages. Will phone Monday and test my italian!!

Thanks for the feedback, and please feel free to share your Naples FAVS. Theres so much to see and do, we end up sitting home for being overwhelmed with choice!
(poor us, I know. Im not complaining!)

Thanks again and have a wonderful day.

HELLO ALL!

I took the advice of my fellow Fodorite, and took my honey to Caserta Royal Palace for a splendid morning and afternoon of Baroque Beauty. We arrived by 9am, well before the hoardes, got a good parking spot in a cool underground garage, bought my passes early on a website called "weekend in firenze" which emailed me a voucher to turn into the ticket window. We walked the palace, saw the Neapolitan Nativity scene (enormous!) and strolled thru the gardens passed the fountains and ponds to finally have ice wine and cheese and fresh bread in the English Garden at the top of the grounds. We took the bus back to the palace (too hot and tired to walk), and drove UP THE HILL to Casertavecchia for our hotel. At $90 US. for one night, prepaid on Orbitz.com, it was a bargain. With a lovely pool. I emailed the hotel and had cold wine and fresh roses waiting in the room to surprise my Husband when he walked in!!! I instructed the hotel not more than 50 euro for wine/flowers. The service was great, friendly! I highly HIGHLY recommend CASERTA ANTICA HOTEL in Caserta vecchia. The view from the restaurant that night in casertavecchia was divine. We ate at "Tu et Moi", which was OK, not spectacular. Dinner (bruchetta, pasta, steak) was EURO 63. for 2 people! (I only had appetizer and pasta). The whole experience was budget, CLOSE to Naples and the US Base, and ROMANTIC as anything which were my 3 qualifiers. Thanks to everyone who posted and especially TripGirl and Ira for their info and all of you who help SO Much!

Happy Anniversary to us!
