I have twice purchased plane tickets from this website. My first ticket got messed up when the airline changed its schedule, but the people at economytravel.com were very helpful and made things right.
The earlier you buy your tickets, the better the price. It may be possible to save by waiting until the last minute, hoping to snag a better bargain elsewhere, but personally, I like knowing everything is arranged, including my choice of seating on the plane and that means booking early.
Good luck with your search!

That site has been around for awhile, I first bookmarked it 2 years ago and used it last year to buy a ticket. I have found their prices to be, on the average, anywhere from $300-$500 less than the top airlines quoted price (I compare with United Airlines). The problem I have had is that the seats offered, on say Lufthansa, are not available as mileage seats if I call United to buy a corresponding seat. Other than that, their fares are good.
You might try another site that I have been using lately that came in even lower than economytravel.com called artisantravel.com (http://www.artisantravel.com). Their quote came in even $200 less than economytravel's quote for the exact same routing. Email them your desired itinerary(ies) on the "book a flight" link and they are prompt about emailing you back within the next day or so with a price.

I have been playing around trying for last minute tickets and has used http://www.airlineconsolidator.com/
and 1-800-flyeurope. Much to my surprise, I found that sidesstep.com came up with the same or better airfares on the exact same dates (and these were for consolidator fares).

Thank you ira.
SO MANY web sites it is hard to keep track. I think I will need to make a chart to record all the sites.
What are some organizational tips ya'll have for airfare hunting. (laughing to myself. I feel like I should have a hunting outfit on and gather the dogs.) This is a bit of a game isn't it?
