            Weather in Switzerland

Jump to last reply Flag this topic

I'm in the very early process of planning a first time trip to Switzerland for 2010. I'm hoping to use frequent flyer miles for my husband and I, but of course the airlines never make it perfect for you, and we only have enough FF miles for two tickets if we travel during the off-peak times, which is Oct. 15 - May 15. I have read that the best times to travel are June-August because the weather can be so unpredictable and make certain sights or travels impossible.

My questions to all experienced Swiss travelers is thus:

            1. Which would be less risky, weather-wise: late April-early May, or the latter half of October?
            or:
            2. Is the weather just that much better in late May - August that you would spend the extra money or miles to only travel during those times?

We've successfully traveled to other places in the late April-early May period (England, France, Germany and Italy) and had beautiful weather, but of course this did not involve the mountains. We aren't hikers, but the scenery and incredible rail journeys are what I'm most interested in seeing.

            Thanks in advance!
