weather in Florence

I will be going to Italy, florence area 2007, either last week in April (2 week stay) or middle of June (also 2 weeks). Can anyone advise which would be best, weather wise?

Hi sj,

Mid-May to mid-June or mid-Sept to mid-Oct are the very best times.

Hi

You can check out weather stats on http://www.weatherbase.com . That should give you an impression of the weather at least

I would go in April because the weahter will be reasonable good and there would be fewer fellow travelers. By June it could also begin to get hot.

I have been in Florence in June sjd and have almost passed out from the heat and humidty..and the crowds certainly have not helped.

Personally I would chose April if I had to pick either of these dates. Even if you got some rain I think you would be more comfortable. Well lets say I would be.

Of course pass weather is not any guarantee of future weather.

I would recommend the earlier date. I have a feeling that those who hate Florence have visited when it was very hot and very crowded.

We were there in early June. It was unseasonably cool - highs in the 60s. It was very crowded around the "major sites" (e.g. the Duomo, the Piazza della Signoria), but if you were just walking around, it didn't feel incredibly crowded. But I can see where another 30 degrees and a few thousand more people would make it miserable.

Have been first two weeks in April and last week in April/first week of May and weather was perfect. But was getting little warm in May and the a/c was not on in the hotel. Crowds are also much less in early April unless you run into spring break students from US.

April without a doubt. I take issue with the comment about mid-May to mid-June and mid-Sept to mid-October being the best times to visit Florence. It can be blazing hot and will surely be packed with tourists during those weeks. For Florence, more so than many other cities, I would travel as far off-season as possible...in your case, late April would be excellent.

Someone on this board mentioned a November trip to Florence and I'm still fantasizing about that. Spending lots of time in the museums, stopping for steaming cups of coffee or chocolate, few crowds, etc. It sounds so nice!

I'm another that prefers Florence when it is colder. The city is small and in-season crowds can make it overwhelming.

We always go in the winter, and I do sometimes miss a few things, such as boat races and a festival, that we saw during warmer months. But not fighting crowds is really nice.
