Weather in Feb Mar

I know spring and summer are better weatherwise for Europe, but I still would like to know in general what sort of temperatures to expect if I travel around Spain or Italy in, say, February or March.

I'm going to hit the big 6-5 in February. I hate getting old, but that's a significant milestone, so I may try to console myself by buying myself a "medicare birthday present" consisting of a cheap flight (no such thing?) and a eurailpass of some sort, and just see some of a couple countries I've never been to before.

I don't ski, but I'm not afraid of traveling in cold weather. I just want an idea ahead of time how dumb it would be this time of year!

Not dumb at all. There is no bad weather, there is only wrong clothing. Bring appropriate stuff and you'll be fine: Rainproof jacket, comfy shoes that keep your feet dry in muddy snow and heavy rain,, at least one warm fleece that fits underneath the rain jacket. Take clothes that can be worn in layers according to the conditions. There may already be pleasant sunny spring days around the Mediterranean in March, but there is no guarantee...

I am a touch older than you and have been doing Europe winter travel for about 10 years. Go for it! I have met great people, drunk gallons of wine and in general had a grand time. I have found that its warm in pubs, museums and B&B's.

That is a bit too vague, there are huge regional differences in both these countries, temps vary between coastal and inland-mountain regions, between north (mellow in Spain because of the Gulf Stream) and south, ditto in Italy.

Research www.weatherbase.com, or go to Costa Rica instead.

I've traveled to Europe in the winter months plenty of times, and we are going to Istanbul in February. I love the winter months because of lack of crowds...you can see some amazing sites without having to wait in any lines.

I have been to Rome and Umbria in February and in March. Umbria was definitely chilly and rainy/foggy, but still beautiful. Rome is fantastic and, compared to my hometown in the midwest, much more temperate.

I did go to Vienna and Munich in February a few years back and it was beyond cold...I honestly don't think I would do that again. However, seeing Vienna in a blanket of snow was certainly a beautiful sight.

I hear good things about the Andalucia region in Spain, and this was recommended to me for February but we chose Turkey.

Good luck!

As my 82 year old mother would say: "What's your rush?"

You don't think you're going to live 8 weeks until the weather improves?

Why don't you ignore your birthday and happily watch oil prices and the dollar fall, and think about SUNNY Spain.

I don't think plastic ponchos look good and I like to sip my drinks outdoors.

It will be cold everywhere in Europe.

When we have enough of the cold temperatures, we fly to Tenerife. Egypt is also a good destination for February. What about a Nile cruise? An unforgettable experience, and in February, temperatures will be perfect.

Have been to Rome and Florence/Tuscany in March. Quite cool (day temps usually in the 50sF). Had a few days of light rain/fog, but also many were sunny. Thoroughly enjoyed it. And NO crowds.
