We plan to spend a few days in Provence, probably near St Remy.Thinking about picking up a car in Avignon for the time in Provence. Afterwards, we need to meet up with a group in Tours. Could we drive to Aix and train from there or is there a better idea?
We need to get to Tours from Provence by train, what is the best route?

Go to sncf.com and plug in the departure and arrival points; that's how you'll get the best routes.
I use the German system to determine train schedules in France - much more intuitive than the sncf site, IMO.

Are you really going to Tours, or will the TGV station "next door" in St Pierre des Corps work?
From
Avignon TGV
to
St Pierre des Corps
dates are in DD/MM/YYYY format
Currently, there is a train that leaves Avignon TGV station at 12:10 & arrives in St Pierre at 16:30. There are many schedules with a train change in Lyon. Sometimes weekend schedules are different than weekday schedules.

Thanks for your help. Looks like it would take around 4 hrs to take the train to Tours and the schedule doesn't really suit me. If we chose to drive via Michelin says its 6 1/2 hrs. Can you suggest a route, interesting stops or a good place to spend a night on the way?
Try google maps, it gives you 3 itineraries. All of them are around 7 1/2 hours.
Valtor, I've not used google maps before. I was able to get one route, how do I access the others?
Hi!
We live in Tours and last month we spent a week in Camargue (not far from St Remy. Teh train trip is extremely simple and easy: TGV (Train Grande Vitesse = Speed Train) direct from Avignon to Tours.
For schedule and advance booking (much cheaper if more than one month ahead) see the site www;voyage-sncf.fr
Good trip!

>>the schedule doesn't really suit me.<<
Huh??
There are trains that leave the Avignon TGV station for St Pierre des Corps at:
7:12
8:06
10:05
12:10
1:32
2:05
3:46
There is an easy train change in Lyon for all of these except the 12:10 which is a no train change.
I would think that 1 of these schedules would work.

Pawleys, if you enter: from Avignon to Tours, will appear 3 suggested routes.
The details and the map are shown for the first route. If you click on the second suggested route, you will see the details and the map for it.
The same for the third.
