Volterra to Pitigliano by public transportation

Volterra to Pitigliano by public transportation
I have found two ways to get to Pitigliano from Volterra. I need advice about which is the best way, which is faster, the most reliable and which has the easiest connections. Is there another way I have not found?
The 1st is by bus from Volterra to Cecina, then by regional train to either Albinia or Orbetello, then by bus to Pitigliano.
The 2nd is by bus or train to Grosseto and then taking the bus to Pitigliano. Am I correct that this requires a bus change in Albinia?
The buses to Pitigliano go to Manciano. Is there a bus change there or is it just a stop?
We are traveling in mid September.

Unfamiliar with the routes you've outlined, but have you considered buses to Florence, then a train to Orvieto or Viterbo, then transport from there to Pitigliano? In addition to seeing if there might be a bus, I would look into the cost of a tax. If you have booked someplace to stay in Pitigliano or nearby, see if they can quote you a price for a car-service pick up from either Orvieto or Grosseto or Viterbo).
Also, sometimes weird routes are the fastest routes in Italy. Since you've got plenty of time to research, check out the possibility of Volterra to Pisa or Livorno by bus, and then train Pisa to Grosseto. It might, weirdly, be more convenient -- but might not. Worth a look.
Finally, whatever you figure out regarding public transport, suggest you personally ask some taxi drivers in Volterra what they would charge you to take you Pitigliano. Maybe the quoted price will be much much more than you are willing to pay, or maybe it won't be. Worth asking unless you are determined to travel supercheap.

There is no train from Volterra to Grosseto. Trenitalia shows service on that route, but it involves taking a bus to Cecina and a train from there to Grosseto or Orbetello. This means that your choices number 1 and 2 are the same as far as Cecina. The connection from the bus to the train should be reliable, because the bus is operated in partnership with Trenitalia.
From both Grosseto and Orbetello, you could take a bus to Pitigliano. From Grosseto the route starts from the train station, so you should see it sitting there for a while before the departure. From Orbetello, the bus stops at the train station, but doesn't start there, so it would be a short stop and you'd have to be sure you were waiting in the right place. However, the trip is shorter from Orbetello than from Grosseto.

I wouldn't take the train to Albinia, because it doesn't seem that the bus stop is at the train station. It says it's at the "Aldi", which is a department store.
