visiting Paris end of March

We are a family of 10 visiting Paris over a week. I found a place outside the 14th Arr in Montrouge. Can anyone tell me if this is a decent location?

It's on Rue de la Vanne just south of Rue Barbes. The listing says it is near the Porte d'Orleans Metro and Parc Montsouris.

First timer to Paris for all of us and we'd like to make it a memorable one.

Merci beacoup!

Actually you are about as close to the RER Cité Universitaire (within Paris) as the Porte d'Orléans métro stop. The advantage is that the RER will get you to the center of Paris more quickly, and if you need a stop on the Porte d'Orléans-Porte de Clignancourt line, you can transfer at Denfert-Rochereau or farther in town at the St. Michel station. Within Paris, the RER can be used with just a métro ticket.

It is a bit out of the usual tourist paths, but I would guess it is hard to find a place for ten in the middle of the city.

That having been said, we like the Parc Montsouris area a lot and the pictures we have seen of the Cite Universitaire make it something we will see on our next visit.

Have you looked at the address on Google Maps? If you switch to satellite view and keep enlarging, it will take you right down to a view of the building and street itself. You can then "walk" around the neighborhood by zooming in and out from street view to views from above and get a real feeling for the place.

It's kind of far out, so it isn't going to be memorable in that sense. It's a suburb and not in a very residential area, pretty sure, and it will take you a while to get to where you probably want to sightsee.

It looks like a pretty long walk to an RER or metro stop, and it would involve crossing the peripherique not sure what that is like. Of course if you don't mind walking, it's about 1 km to the metro or RER stops, I guess. I lived in Cite Universitaire one summer and even though I found it kind of a pain in terms of transportation. At least they have the tram running around down there now, also, they didn't when I was there, but that is around Paris, not into it.

If you have to, okay, but I would not choose to stay there for a memorable experience.

Um, I don;t believe you can cross the peripherique - I think you have to either go under it via a pedestrian passage or take a bridge over it.

Can't comment non the area - we always stay in the center - but I would calculate carefully how far it is to the nearest Metro or RER.

I think being that far from the center you'll miss some of the vibrancy of Paris you can find from walking out your door and seeing street activity and cafes. I like returning to my hotel/apartment after sightseeing for the day, freshening up, and then going to dinner. If you stay too far from the sights it will take too much time to return to your hotel and then go back into the city again for dinner or a late museum visit.

The areas near the river are often more expensive but you can compromise and find a place more north in the 14th bordering on the 5th arrondissement.

Won't accommodate your army (unless a couple of older children or in-laws can be persuaded to 'do their own thing' ), but one of these could be a much better option for a large family group -
