I'm not sure what your itinerary is, or how long you've got in Italy. Are there two separate periods that we are talking about? ie 3 days in Rome, a gap, then coming back again? or do they run into each other?

and where can you fly into/out of?

As to what to do, it depends on what you enjoy doing. However, I'd say that you should see Tuscany (Florence) and Venice. You could see Tuscany and drive or train along the Italian Riviera, but I'd opt for Venice. If you want to see beautiful sea views, Venice has them, plus architecture. Italian Riviera always seemed somewhat "distant" to me when passing.

However, I'd drop Amalfi Coast, beautiful as it is, as it is too far in the wrong direction given the time you have.

If you will be traveling alone, I'd take the train. Most of the places you'll want to see are reachable by train.

hi if you are going to be staying in rome you might want to look at various websites like airbnb or maybe venere.com for a hotel or apartment. we used nextaway.com to get an excellent hotel in the city centre close to the spanish steps with internet and a/c.

Well - first of all we are not sirs - at least many of us. I've never seen a breakdown by gender but would suspect more than 50% of posters are women.

And I would break it up differently.

I would do the Amalfi Coast on it's own - since it's the farthest.

Then later start in Rome, spend a couple of days in Tuscany and then the Italian Riviera.

Either way you are squashing a lot of places into not much time - at the busiest time of year.

Cannot help with hotels - that is not our price point.

Let me explain my itinerary , I am flying to Rome , and spend 3 days there ,from July 19 to July 22 , then I wanted to go visit Amalfi coast , from July 22 to July 24 , and later go up to Tuscany and Italian Riviera ,from July 24 till July 31 , finishing in Milan back to Miami , which is closer to the Italian Riviera . Please let me know what do you think about
I would rent a car when leaving Rome , so the first 3 days I would spend in Rome without a vehicle .

thank you for posting your dates, now it makes much more sense.

if you are flying in on July 19 and leaving on July 31, that gives you 12 nights, in which you really only have time for 3 places max. i would suggest 4 nights in Rome [not enough, but a start] 4 on the Amalfi coast, and the other 4 in Tuscany [perhaps will have to be three plus one near Milan to put you in the right place for flying home].

remember, you lose at least 1/2 a day every time you move, and you have to allow for jetlag, checking in, checking out, getting to know wherever you are staying, etc. etc.

With only 12 days, given the time it takes to get from one place to another, at most you can visit 3 areas: I would do Rome for 5, Amalfi for 3, and Tuscany for 3, then a hop to Milan to fly home.
