Unless you are planning on arranging your itinerary that morning, I don't see why you wouldn't want to book what you can now.

In a way, it was. You wanted to know if you should book ahead or not. I said yes.

Cyprus will have folks there escaping the gray and rain of the UK. How many? Crowds not as big as summer.

Personally, even though it is the "low" season, I would not wait to book.

It depends a bit on the standard of accommodation that you're going to be looking for and whether you intend to base in one place or more. Cyprus is, as sparkchaser says, a winter sun destination for lots of Brits, but you'll also find many Russians there too.

Resorts like Paphos will be busy, but not crowded. Towns like Limassol and Larnaca will be the same. Do you intend to go to Northern(Turkish) or Greek Cyprus?

Either way, do book ahead, not only to make sure that you get somewhere to sleep that you like the look of, but also you'll find that you can get much better deals than just walking in to hotels.

It all really depends on where you'll be going. Both the northern and southern most tips of the island, where most busy and tourist-based towns are found, are likely to be busy all year round and especially in January.

You should really aim to book ahead regardless of where you'll be staying. Smaller resorts such as Latchi or Kyrenia, despite being more peaceful than larger destinations such as paphos, will still be very busy and booking for a space in your typical luxury villas in Cyprus will be competitive.

In my experience, once of the best ways to check and give yourself an impression of booking popularity is to visit a travel accommodation site based in Cyrous and see how their bookings are looking. Somewhere popular like http://www.akamas-villas.com/ or www.topsethotel.com/

Best of luck in the meantime, and enjoy your trip. Perhaps you can give us an update when you're back?

Yes, please do give us a trip report. Cyprus, particularly Kyrenia, is on my bucket list for a revisit. I was last there just before the Turks invaded in 1974. I assume it might have changed a bit!
