Visit Uzes from Nimes by bus

Hi,

I am wondering if is possible to go to Uzes when doing a day trip to Nimes from Montpellier. Would that be a bit too rushed?

I would be depending on a bus to go from Nimes to Uzes, but no idea how frequent they are and how long it would take to get there and back.

Problem is that as I read up about these places places they sound interesting and get added to my list !

Go or not go?

Thanks!

I do suppose there are buses. However :

Montpellier - Nimes is about 1 h. Nimes Uzes is about 40 min. By car. Not stopping to take in passengers. Not going through small roads.

So I would double that time. Say you need at least 4 hours. Then add waiting time for the bus and time to find the place where to board the bus.

You will not have much time left to visit Nimes nor Uzes.
Check your schedules and check how much time you want to spend in both places, but it seems you'll spend a lot of time traveling and not much time visiting.

Is there some reason you can't use the Edgard bus information I already gave you on another thread to follow up on this?

It would be too rushed for me IMO, regardless of whether you can do it. And buses in Provence can eat up a lot of time due to scheduling. But that one isn't too bad (that bus).

That is the E52 bus and it takes 45 minutes between Nimes and Uzes, but as with buses, you have to find the right schedule.

In theory, yes, you can do it if you don't want to spend a lot of time in either place. For example, spend all mornoing in Nimes, then there is a bus to Uzes at 1 pm (or 2:15 pm). Then you can return to Nimes from Uzes (as Uzes doesn't have a train station) at 17:45 or 18:10 pm. So you'd have 3 hrs in Uzes if you wish, more or less, if you don't mind getting back to Montpellier later in the evening.

So do check the Edgard bus website if you have the link and decide if this is for you or not. The bus leaves from teh Nimes Gare Routiere (bus station) which I believe is right next to the train station, so that is convenient. The stop in Uzes is the Esplanade that you would use, right near the center.

Hmm... I dont like feeling rushed and on a schedule. Think better to pick one place and say with that.

It was my impression that the Edgard buses are mostly for school children and run infrequently and less on weekends. Look at the online schedules for precise information. I would definitely not try to visit more than 1 place in a day using them.

I can't get Uzes out of my head, so my current thinking is to make an early start - take the 6:55 am bus to Uzes which gets there at 7:30. Being a Wednesday, the market should be on, so there will be activity at that time even though other places might be closed. I will take the 13:30 bus back to Nimes which will give me sufficient time to soak up the atmosphere in Uzes.

In Nimes, that will leave me with time until 6 pm to see the arena, Maison etc. and head back by train to Montpellier.

Seems doable to me. Will ponder over this a bit more.

I hope the buses are reliable timing and frequency wise.

Uzes has no train station, so the only connection is by bus. I see that the Edgard timetable has some special timings for school vacation period but nothing that indicates it is only for school children?

No, I didn't mean the buses were only for school children, but that the schedule largely is. I took the bus to & from Avignon.

I visited both Uzes and Nimes on the same day last week Wednesday. It was the market day in Uzes so it was a really atmospheric and a lot of fun. Only problem was that I got a bit carried away, bought a lot of stuff and then had to carry around a heavy backpack for the rest of the day!

The bus E52 from/to is very convenient, only took about 40 min. For others who might need this info, I would like to mention that the Edgard bus stops are to the back of the Nimes train station. I first went out of the front entrance and searched before finding the bays at the back. E52 stops at bay 10. Also, in Uzes the bus stop is the same one for buses in both directions.
