Visit to Sardinia
As part of our trip to Italy, we are planning to take a ferry from Civitivechia (sp?) to either Olbia or Calgiari and spend several days on Sardinia exploring the nuraghi sites by car. There's a shortage of information about Sardinia in the Fodor books and online. Has anyone spent time on Sardinia (not just the beach area) and what should we be thinking about? We might use AirBnB to find a place to stay or stay in hotels. Thanks for any help/advice.

When you get to Sardegna it will be possible to buy a map of the nuraghi sites. They will be in Italian but they will still be helpful. Some of these sites are privately maintained and cost a few euro to tour, but they are still quite worth it.
In the meantime, if you do some google searches for "cartina nuraghi" and "carta nuraghi" you will find more info, again in Italian. Some of it is aimed a specialists but a lot will simply identify for you the names of nuraghi sites in the areas you are likely to be. Using those names, you can do a little more googling and come up with pictures and more detailed info about them, including opening hours.
