Visa for Russia and Belarus
My wife and I will be traveling to Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg) with a side trup to Belarus (Minsk, where she was born) in September. Are there any special visa arrangements between the two countries? Do we have to make special arrangements with our Russian visas since we will be entering, leaving and re-entering the country? Thanks so much!

Odin is correct about the need for a dual-entry Russian visa (many people miss this point if they are going to, for instance, Tallinn as a side trip from Moscow or St. Petersburg).
Very specifically you will need a visa for Belarus. You also need to make certain that you follow their guidelines (as an apparent former USSR or Belarus citizen; information in Russian):

There is also the strong possibility that the visa regulations for Belarus will change between now and September, so keep yourself updated.

A reader wrote to me privately for clarification, and it would be useful to post here.
There has been in the past (1999-2003) inconsistent application of a passport union between Russia and Belarus. This meant that travelers from Russia holding Russian visas were sometimes not required to obtain Belarus visas. Since approximately 2003 this has not been the case; any traveler to Belarus needs a visa from Belarus (which in almost all cases should be obtained in advance).
