Villefranche Sur Mer during Cannes Film Festival

We are planning a trip to Florence/Cinque Terre/Nice and a nearby beach for next May. I realized that our trip coincides with the Cannes Film Festival, so plans to visit Cannes are probably going to be abandoned. I began a search for a beach near Nice to visit since we will fly out of Nice. I heard about Villefrance Sur Mer being nice. My question is - is it a mistake to travel to this area during the Cannes Film Festival? Will Villefranche Sur Mer still be really busy/inflated prices etc? Will flying out of Nice airport on May 24/25 be a mistake? If so, does anyone have a suggestion for a beach/area that won't be as crowded? We are fine with normal tourist crowds, I just dont want to go if its impossible to get a dinner reservation or hotel room, etc.
