Villa/House to Rent
i will be taking an extended time off work this summer and would like to spend three weeks in Greece. We would like to rent a house/villa/condo in which we could live comfortably during that time. We are a family of four, with two kids 17 & 15. Would like to be close to the beach. We would envision using this house as a place from which we could go out for a day or two to tour at different times. We have never been to Greece, so we would welcome any information.

greecetravel.com many options
best done boots on the ground
Oia area santorini.com ikies.com most magical
for me many deals on www.otel.com
better islands for beach no better for sunset caldera views.
Many scammers on line on Craigslist vrbo etc. I never wire
money WAY too risky.

Most people automatically think of islands, but having recently returned from a visit to southern Peloponnese, give that some consideration. Having travelled almost exclusively to the islands for many years, that trip on the mainland was an eye opener for me. The Messinia and Laconia regions have beautiful beaches, many ancient sites, and can be reached easily by road from Athens. Even closer to Athens is the Nafplion area, which has much to see. Rent a car and you can take those day trips without worry about ferry timetables.
If you want to base yourself on an island, think of Crete, or Naxos and Paros in the Cyclades.

Another great region to visit and stay, is the Pelion mountain with it's beautiful 24 villages and the city of Volos.
Pelion has even some wondeful villages located on the Pagasitikos Gulf.
From Volos you can easily reach other parts of Mainland Greece such as Meterora, or even visit the 3 Sporades islands, Skiathos, Allonissos and Skopelos.

Hi,
I agree that the Peloponnese is a great area to explore. There is so much to see and do. You could rent two houses in different areas of Greece. I rented a house on Crete for 1 week. It was wonderful. It has a pool and is also near the beach and there is a lot to see in Crete. Google Villa Allium at Aspro Crete.
Have a great vacation,
Yipper
