Village house in Provence - available for rent

We have a fully renovated village house in the village of Beaumes de Venise in the Vaucluse departement of Provence. It is on 3 levels, with 2 bedrooms, and can sleep up to 6. Beaumes is a wine village on the edge of the Cote du Rhone region and it has all services - it is about 32 kms NE of Avignon and the large town of Carpentras is only 9 kms. This is a great area of Provence with lots to see - I would be hahpy to talk about the area genrally or to give more details on the house.
Greg

Hi Greg! I was thrilled to see your posting re: Provence. We (my family) are going to be visiting friends in Marsanne for two weeks in August. It appears that you are in the same area. I was wondering if you could recommend places to see and/or things to do while we are there?Anything you could tell me about the area would be appreciated.

I am rather embarassed to say that I can't place Marsanne - I know of it but I just can't recall exactly where it is. I will give you an email direct later to tell you some of my favourite spots around 'our' area anyway.
Greg
Hi Greg, I am a stone carver and have been told that there is a limestone quarry or a number of them in the Vaucluse region. I have been given a phone number but do not have the city code. First, can you tell me how to dial the area..what are the first 3 digits? Secondly, do you know of a limestone quarry in the area. I will be in Paris and exhibiting a sculpture in Salon D'Automne and would like to combine my trip to sculpt in the south for two weeks. Is this information something you might have? If so, please let me know.

French phone numbers are of 10 digits, the first 2 are the area code. For the Vaucluse, the first 2 will be 04 - if you are dialling from outside France you do not use the '0', within France you do. Country code for France is 33.

There are a number of quarries in the Vaucluse area but I really don't know much about them - what type of stone they produce, or for what purpose. Have a look at the Beyond the French Riviera site - they have a page with Porvence Art, Craft etc {http://www.beyond.fr}
There are dormant quarries at and around Roussillon but they are ochre quarries - spectactularly beautiful, but not what you want. I will have a look at some of my other Provence sites and leave another message if I can add anything
Greg
Dear Greg, It is two years since you posted that you had a house in the Vaucluse for rent. Do you still? My family of four is interested in renting
a house in that very area next summer.
If so, what info. can you give me about it?

Hi Terry, yes we still rent the house when the owners are not using it. Since I posted that first message we have built a website which you may like to have a look at - http://www.ozramp.net.au/~gyeaman
Email mr direct if you would like more information - or you can email from the site to Valerie, who looks after our bookings
Greg
Greg, as lovely as your offer sounds, this site specifically states NO ADVERTISING. I am surprised that somebody from the Fodors staff hasn't remove your post already and/or some of Margo's critics (much less obvious advertising...) haven't notice yet...

Hello Fodorites,

I would like to start a new thread on this forum, if it is acceptable to other readers and the Fadors staff.

There seem to be at least several participants who own property abroad. They are private individuals that own a second home and rent it to help defray expenses.

There are also readers who are interested in renting such property rather than staying in a traditional hotel or travelling with a tour group. These are independant individuals who actually wish to spend a week or two in a location more as a resident than as a visitor.

The thread that I propose would allow interested readers to exchange ideas on home stays, and even communicate with other readers who own property in Europe. I agree with the concept that this forum should not be used as a commercial site.

My wife and I are in the process of remodeling an apartment in the Latin Quarter, which is the realization of a dream. The dream of actually owning our own little corner of Paris. I would be glad to share our experiences, the ups and downs, the joys and sorrows, with others and would love to hear about the experiences of other adventuresome individuals.

I think this subject is an extension of the travel experience and is an appropriate subject for this forum.

I would like to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Sincerely,

Randall Smith
Hi Randall,

I like your idea of a thread to talk about purchasing property in Europe. We are considering a purchase and would love to hear about your experiences - good and bad.

How did you find your apartment?

Dear Me,

To me (no pun intended) puchasing an apartment in Paris is a natural evolution of my desire to travel, see the world, and feel a part of that world. It's wonderful travel and to see the sights, but it's taking travel to another level to feel part of another culture, and for that matter have a home base in Europe from which to branch out.

So far it has been a fantastic adventure and I would be happy to share our tales with others who are just interested or would like to be adventuresome and purchase property abroad. We like Peter Mayle are in the process of major renovations, and to date this has been the most difficult part of our saga. Keeping track of things from the US has been a real challenge, luckily we have someone who we trust very much who is helping us in Paris.

At this point I think I could write a book about our experiences, but that being inappropriate for this forum I would be glad to answer specific questions of contribute to a general discussion with others who have attempted this.

Looking forward to further discussion.

Randy Smith
