I emailed Villa Rosa to reserve a room on the third or fourth floor for seven nights in June. Their response was that they had "one last beautiful double room." Am I right in assuming it's on the lower floor? I will confirm that with them, but if it is, what other Positano hotel would give me something similar for that price? (They raised their rates, BTW, to 150E.) We want a great view with breakfast on the spectacular balcony, and we don't mind a bit of a hike up the stairs. I have considered an apartment, but the Sat-to-Sat schedule isn't really convenient for us.

Okay, they replied already with "We cannot tell you the right floor but it should be the second or the third
floor." From what I understand there's a big difference between those two floors when it comes to view and size of room. Is it worth the risk?

Unfortunately I know nothing about Villa Rosa, but we plan to stay in Albergo California in Positano in May. It also has wonderful reviews and the prices are very similar to what you describe for Villa Rosa. If you decide against Villa Rosa, I thought it might come in handy

Sorry, I don't know about the Villa Rosa. But we will be in Positano in mid-June, staying 7 nights at a rental place called the Residence Stefania. Come on by and we'll have a Fodors cocktail-GTG on the balcony!

We stayed at the Villa Rosa in Sept 2003 in a room on the 2nd floor. The view was perhaps 25% obstructed by the hotel in front (Le Sirenuse). All in all, the view was still beautiful. If you can get the top floor, that would be great. But I don't think I would write it off if I could only get the 2nd floor. BTW, The staff at Villa Rosa is very nice and speaks very good english.

Think of it this way: you'll be spending 200E less per night that the folks at Le Sirenuse with almost as good of a view.

Thanks all. I did go ahead and put down a deposit for a room at Villa Rosa. Hopefully the flattering comments I made about the hotel will compel them to give me the best room available.

mr go, we would love to have a mini GTG! We'll be there June 20-27. Will your lovely wife and daughter be accompanying you? I did look into apartment rentals but the Sat to Sat schedule isn't nearly as convenient for us, as we need to leave the States on a Sat.

Yes, Jocelyn, we'll all be there. But unfortunately we'll miss you by a couple of days. We're heading back up to Naples on the 18th for a few days before flying home. Good luck with your room. I'm sure it will turn out great.

Want a great view? We stay every year at Residence La Tavolozza on Via C. Colombo. It is a renovated 6 bedroom villa run by Celeste and her family. Very clean with lots of marble and tile and huge terraces that have spectacular views of Positano and the Bay of Salerno.

Our tentative plan is to head down to Positano from Rome on the 20th, stopping in Naples for lunch. If you're still around, maybe we could meet somewhere near the train station for pizza?

I am not familiar with Villa Rosa, however we stayed last month at Villa La Tartana after reading wonderful trip reviews on many websites. We were very happy with it. Our room had a spectacular view, breakfast was served on our balcony or in the room every morning. It was a great experience...we can't wait to go back. The staff - especially Carmella will help you with anything. We also paid 150 euros per night. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the other suggestions, but we're going to stick with Villa Rosa. I initially looked at Villa La Tartana, but I'd really like to have the view of the town from higher up, especially since we're not planning on spending much time on the beach.

We stayed at the Villa Rosa this July- It is located half way up the hill, reasonable in price, great staff, and wonderful views...if you can get a room on the 3rd or 4th floors(Room 28 is the best). When we were there they were already taking reservations for 2006 so the word is getting out on this popular hotel. Enjoy. We didn't want to leave.

I'm hearing that no matter what room you have, it is a big hike up to the hotel rooms with no elevator.

Would I have trouble getting the wife's kitchen sink up to Villa Rosa?

LAwoman- sorry you are right. We stayed in room 32- on the 3rd floor, not room 28. Room 32 is on the corner with the largest terrace and a huge glass window and sliding door with a great view of the sea and town. Breakfast on your private terrace each morning was exquisite! Any room on the 2nd or 3rd floors will give you an unobstructed view. Sorry for the confusion; old-timers disease.
