Vienna Woods & Heuringen

We were in Vienna last year and absolutely loved it! We are heading to Croatia in May and decided to fly into Vienna and start out with 2 nights there before hopping on the train into Croatia. We would like to stay near or in Vienna woods near the Heuringen. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to stay under 100 Euro/ I would also like to know your favorite Heuringen. Out of the three we visited we liked Weingut Wolff.

Some of my favourite Heurigen are in Gumpoldskirchen in the south of Vienna (about 30-40 minutes by car).
English version of homepages: http://www.66er.at/gumpoldskirchen/6...tte_Rechts.htm
http://www.krug.at/eframe_2.html
66er has great atmosphere, Krug offers B&B for € 58 (double bed room, breakfast included).
Are you thinking of renting a car? You will need one to get there from and to the airport. Gumpoldskirchen is amidst vineyards, and you are close to the Vienna woods (perfect for hiking) and the small town of Baden bei Wien (very pittoresque).

While Viennese gives good advice, a nice small and friendly hotel- Landhaus Fuhrgassl- Huber-just 200 metres from Wolff( same street, same side ) is a very nice place to stay and allows you to sample all the wine you wish and not worry about driving. It may be just a few Euros more , perhaps 5or 10 but is well worth it. Convenient Bus and " Bim"( streetcars ) provide easy access to the center of the city in a few minutes.

Just a few metres past Wolff you can find two nice places- Fuhrgassl-Huber and Hauerkuchl. Yes, all owned by the same family.Excelent food and wine- music some nights at Fuhrgassl- Huber.
All have nice gardens.
These are my favorites in Vienna with SchÜbel- Auer in Nussdorf( end of the " D " streecar.
You can easily walk into the vineyards and woods from these places. Paths are well cared for.May is a perfect time for this.
Try www.fuhrgassl.at for more information. The pictures paint a correct picture.

As you saw at Wolff,Neustift does not getso many tourists like Grinzing and the wine and food is much better.
The prices are generally less also.

Hi Molker,
I am glad you are here to assist me! Yes, Neustift is a good location. Not an easy decision for eurotraveller!

Message for Viennese: Gumpoldskirchen is great but takes longer to reach and the driver can not drink so much. The S-bahn takes too long and is not convenient.
I need to get my wine quickly and in some volume- thus Neustift am Walde allows me these things.

Thanks for the advice! When I was in Vienna last year I found the public transportation to be very easy to get around so we will not be renting a car. I like the Heurigen with the terraced patios the best!

Hello; Both posters have given you excellent advice. I can give you one in Sievering called the Zur Agnes, 1190 WIEN Sieveringerstr. 221.
The owner, Marta, directed us to many heuriger in the area, not one of them tourist occupied, which is the best experience. Marta and her husband, "The Boss" are great and the rooms are very fine for under 100 Euro. Marta also made us the best wienerschnitzel we have ever eaten in Vienna. Here is their site address: http://members.nudsl.at/agnes/
Tip a glass or two of Gruner Veltliner for me!
