Vienna to Prague ( via Cesky Krumlow )

Hi All,
On 18th or 19th May I will be moving from Vienna to Prague, which should be a 4 hour transfer by train. And I was planning to do a day trip to Cesky Krumlow from Prague. Rather than going to Prague and coming back for a day, can I save some time by visitng Cesky Krumlow while going to Prague.
Among the options i have read is
1. Train and bus combination from Vienna -> Cesky Krumlow -> Prague . If starting early in the day does this provide enough time to spend in Cesky Krumlow ?
2. Student Agency - They have direct buses Vienna -> Cesky and also Cesky -> Prague. How much time do I need to see Cesky , this will help me book bus from Cesky to Prague.
3. More expensive option is to join a private car drop vienna -> cesky -> prague, I am alone and dont know whether individuals are accepted as part of the car trip .Also this appears very expensive, but time saving.
pls suggest if there are any other options. And in general how much time is required to see Cesky Krumlow. I plan to return and stay in Prague the same night ( though I have not made any bookings yet ).

What do you plan on doing with your luggage while in CK?

I'd think you'd want at least four hours in Cesky Krumlov. I was only there for a day trip and that was fine, but even then, I was there probably about 6 hours. But the main attraction is the castle, after all, and in four hours you can certainly see that and something else, as you wish, as well as wander around a bit (but it is small anyway). You could get by with 3 hours, probably.

I don't know how long those methods take (eg, bus to CK from Vienna), but if they leave you with 3-4 hours there, that should work. I know the bus is about 3 hours from CK to Prague, So you can easily have quite a few hours in CK, it seems to me, after all, you don't have to leave until say 4-5 pm. Are you sure Student Agency bus goes from Vienna to CK? If so, sounds fine. Becuase if you take the train, you'll have to transfer probably and still do something at the end as it isn't right in town.

There are shared shuttles from Vienna to CK that would be better than that, like this one http://www.beanshuttle.com/en/transf...cesky-krumlov/

YOu seem to have missed that option, as that is not what I would call a private car and it is pretty cheap (30 euro). Group vans like that always take singles, no problem. I think that trip is also about 3-4 hours. SO you would have at least 4 hours in CK.

>>>>> I researched a little about it and think that the Tourist Information allows you to keep luggage ( no lockers though ) for few hours at a nominal fee about 0.5E.
I will have a medium stroller and a small backpack. Will plan to keep the stroller at the TI.

Christina :
I was wrong about student agency, the do not drove direct vienna CK route. Thanks for the link on beanshuttle, I will probably use that for booking

By train you'd have to go west to Linz and catch trains to Prague from there - taking a sideline to get to c Krumlov - I'd say it is better perhaps to go to Prague and do a day trip from there by bus or train to C Krumlov so you have much of the day here and no luggage to deal with. buy a Vienna-Linz-C Budejevoce-Prague ticket and pay for the side train ride to C Krumlov from c Budejevoce (sp?) - check into direct buses C Krumlov to Prague also.

For info on trains check www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

Usual way to reach Cesky Krumlov by train from Vienna will be to go via Gmund/Ceske Budejovice (absolutely no need to go all the way west to Linz). Austrian Railways offer special discounted tickets from Vienna to Cesky Krumlov for as low as 14 euro. While from Krumlov it's indeed faster to travel to Prague by bus, but in case you prefer train, then it's also possible (about 3 hour journey & tickets start from 189 czk)

Lobo Shuttle goes from Vienna to C. Krumlov and from C. Krumlov to Prague. They also run a pension so may well hold your luggage fo you.

While in C. Krumlov, do get tickets to see the baroque theater at the castle, one of the few remaining in the world. Tickets are limited each day with only a couple of tours in English so reserve ahead.
