Vienna apartment location

It's been about 15 years since we've last been to Vienna, and we stayed at Pension Nossek on the Graben in the Inner Stadt at that time. We are planning to go back to Vienna in March 2015, and I am having trouble deciding on where to book an apartment. Although we liked the Pension Nossek, we prefer to stay in apartments nowadays. Does it really make that much of a difference whether we stay in the Inner Stadt, or focus on finding something that has good transportation proximity?

The vast majority of what we are going to see is within the Ringstrasse, namely museums, churches, etc. I have been scouring Tripadvisor and Homeaway.com, and have a few apartments that I like on each site. The main issue is location, location, location!

Anyone care to give me insight, words of wisdom, or just good advice? Thanks in advance.

How long will your visit be? If it's only a couple of days, then an InnerStadt apartment would save travel time. If you'll be here for a week or so, then looking outside of the InnerStadt (but within the "Gürtel," (B221 road)) for something close to public will work. Just as an example, the Neubau and Josefstadt districts would be ones to consider for proximity and evening life; whereas Margareten and the outer edges of Landstraße are very residential and quiet in the evenings. If you post links to the apartments that you've found, I would be happy to give you a sense of the neighborhood.

We will only be in Vienna for 4 nights, as we also plan to go to Melk for a couple of nights before we leave to go back home. Here are the apartments I've looked at so far; any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I know, most of these are in the Innerstadt. Am I correct in assuming that the areas just on the other side of the Ring road are going to be fine, too?

Any of the homeaway apartments are fine for your stay and for what you want to do. p851930 and p536684 are smack in the middle of tourist-heaven. p2108372 is a convenient location, too, with a little more green space nearby. You can't go wrong with any of the three.

The first tripadvisor rental listed I would pass on, all things being equal. The location is fine, but you will have a little extra travel time, and won't be in the InnerStadt in the evenings, if that is what you desire. The second tripadvisor maps on top of the Vienna Opera. Assuming it's nearby, it's no better or worse than any of the homeaway apartments. They're all very centrally located; it's really just a matter of which has the amenities that you desire.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much, fourfortravel. I needed that validation for the Innerstadt apartments.
