Vienna and Salzburg: Recommended 1/2 day tours with a senior citizen
I will be taking my 78 year old mother to Vienna and Salzburg. We were in Salzburg 3 years ago and she enjoyed the Sound of Music tour, which was relatively undemanding physically. I am looking for alternatives for another small group tour (we used Panaroma) that she might enjoy. She loves churches and would enjoy the beauty of the alps. I plan to take her by bus one day to St. Gilgen and the rest of the time we will enjoy Salzburg itself.
As for Vienna, I am at a loss. I have been to the city several times and walk everywhere or take public transport. Steps are challenging for my mom and I do want her to see the beauty of the city, St. Stephens, etc. I would really like to find a tour that would make it easy for her.
Thanks!

K,
There are many Salzburg tours. We have done the SOM, the Abbey and the Eagles Next in OberSlalzburg. The later is easy to do and on a clear day the views are great. You can walk as much or as little as you want.
The bad part about Europe is that most of what you do requires walking. I Vienna you could try the Spanish Riding School. Just going to the excerise session is fun. You get to see the young horses practicing.
Have fun.

Hello kfusto
Do you know that in Vienna there is a tiny bus that has a route through the smaller streets of the old town?
We only discovered it by accident; it operates on the same tickets that you purchase for other public transport bus / tram / train services.
I think it was a Number 1 route (but wouldn't swear to that). The very helpful staff at the Visitor Centre would be able to help with that detail.
You could both use this as a hop-on-hop off service. It was a mini bus with no or few steps to enter, from memory.
Happy travels, Di

Thanks for the suggestions. The riding school is on my list and I know we need to get tickets the same day. And the smaller bus sounds perfect; less steps for her to climb.
I also found a Christmas concert at the Cathedral which should be fantastic!
