vicchiomaggio or vignamaggio

Hi,

We are planning our honeymoon and are looking at spending a week or so in the Tuscany area. We plan on staying in one spot and exploring from there. We want something special and romantic as it is our honeymoon, but we also want to be able to walk to restaurants at night (we will have a car for exploring). We are thinking about vicchiomaggio or vignammagio. Any comments are appreciated, or suggestions for other small villas in the Chianti area that would suit a honeymoon. Thanks

I really like Vignamaggio, but there are NO restaurants you can walk to. It's surrounded by vineyards. Vignamaggio doesn't have a restaurant but does have occasional dinners for guests. Rent the movie "Much ado about nothing" which was filmed there. Look at the May 15th issue of Wine Spectator for photos and writeups of other great places (and search this site for more info). Congratulations!

Thanks for the info. I have done a lot of reading on these 2 properties but just can't decide on which one. Both seem to be in great locations. Does anyone know if one is more private or more luxurious than the other?

I just stayed at Vignamaggio and loved it but there are not any restaurants to walk to. But, the hotel does do a special dinner for guests twice a week. I believe it is known to be the most luxurious of the two and the other one doesn't have a pool I believe. If you are going in hot weather that is important. Tuscany is special and romantic no matter where you stay. Let me know if you want to know anything else. You can e-mail directly.

We honeymooned last summer there and it was idyllic and stayed there in a separate cottage with jacuzzi - so romantic. We had our wedding and honeymoon co-ordinated by www.get-married.co.uk who are an Anglo-Italian company specialising in customised wedding in Tuscany. If you have not booked your wedding or need advice on where to stay contact them
(our wedding co-ordinator was called Vikki Cheesman who was the best)
