Versailles Hall of Mirrors
My daughter and I will be flying over to Paris on Monday. I heard a couple of months ago that the Hall of Mirrors was basically "covered up" for renovations. Does anyone have a recent update? Thanks for your help.

What am I missing here? Someone asks if the hall of mirrors is covered up. Someone else responds saying yes it is covered up. Then the first person says thank you, I'm glad I'll be able to see it. Huh???

Oh, duh. "It" suddenly meant Versailles, not the Hall of Mirrors. Bob, I swear I read that series of posts over and over again and just didn't see that's what she meant. Of course, now it makes perfect sense.

What I meant is that I now know what to expect (that the Hall will be covered up) but that we would still go (as in the Hall being covered up would not keep us from going) and we would still be able to see the rest of it - meaning Versailles. Thank you Cole, again, for your update and some of you need to get a life.

We were there mid-August. Most of the Hall of Mirrors was covered for renovations but about one third of it, still quite a large area, was uncovered. Although you didn't see the whole Hall in all its splendour it was still gorgeous and there was enough to see how magnificent it would be in total.

Some of us need to get a life? Come on Sheallpet. I hate to get technical on you, but your post was unclear even if Bob did figure it out. As a former English teacher let me remind you that a pronoun ("it", in this case) refers to a noun previously used. The only previously used noun in your post that it could logically refer to was "Versailles Hall of Mirrors". How were we supposed to know that suddenly you weren't just taling about the Hall of Mirrors but instead were now talking about all of Versailles. Or how were we to know that now you weren't referring to the "it" being some of France for that matter?
Naturally I thought that's what the "I can still see part of it" meant -- still see part of the Hall of Mirrors. Forgive me for being grammatically correct, please. And I'll forgive you for being grammatically incorrect. OK?

As I said, I normally overlook spelling and grammar errors, but when one causes at least three of us not to be able to even understand the response, then it is something other than that.
And again, I would never have pointed out the error as some strict old English teacher had I not been scolded for needing to get a life because I couldn't understand someone's lack of clarity. People who correct others spelling here on an informal message board annoy me as much as they do others.
By the way, Zeus, how does one spellcheck here? I've never been able to figure that out and there are times I'd like to do that! I readily admit to my lack of computer skills.

And now that I think about that last response, Zeus, I hope you didn't think I was talking about you with the comment about people correcting grammar annoying me. I hope you realize that I took your comment in the light spirit it was intended (or at least I hope it was intended).

i think they have years left.the hall is still beautiful though & the scaffolding is hidden behind mirrors they added which give an optical illusion that there is no scaffolding at all.this in itself is very neat. i wouldnt delay a visit for years just because of a partial renovation.versailles is so much more than the hall of mirrors.
