Versailles - what tickets to buy?
We will be just using the 10 ticket carnet(spelling - sorry) around Paris, so would appreciate the easy answer as to how best organise ourselves for a vist to Versailles.
We'll be going on a weekday if that makes any difference.
Do we just buy the train ticket and then the entrance ticket when we get there or is there a better way. (we dont need the meuseum pass as not visiting enough of them)
thanks

Cosmo - I suggest that you purchase a Passport Ticket for use on the RER train to Versailles. This package costs 21 Euro but it includes the train cost, entrance to Versailles, and the audio guides while there, and it will minimize standing in lines. There are three main self guided tours, and you get a new audio for each.
The tickets can be purchased at the Metro stations, or in the Louvre on the Carrousel (mall) level where they have a tourist office and specifically a helpful train desk person...more like a travel agent.
Once you get to the RER, look for a train that says VICK on the front. It will take you to Versailles. From hotel (etc) you should figure on an hour to get there.

Thanks very much winesipper thats exactly the info I needed. Do you just swap over the audio guides as you go (and just show the passport ticket to get the new audio)?
You saved me a few hour of extra searches. There is so much information sometimes that it bogs you down just getting the easy answer.
thanks again

I believe that the trains are labeled either VICK or VERO. A shuttle bus will probably be waiting outside the Versailles train station (it costs a euro or two), or else you’ll have about a half-mile walk to the Chateau.
When you leave the Versailles Rive Gauche station you will be on Avenue General de Gaulle. There is a clean bathroom at the MacDonald’s across from the RER station—be nice and buy something. Head right on Ave.
G deG and then left on the big Avenue de Paris which goes straight to the chateau.

When you arrive at Versailles, check at the ticket office to see which special tours are being given on that day. With luck you'll be able to see some of the newly furnished rooms and/or the theater.
