Versaille and Giverney
We will be in Paris the end of June with our teenage daughter who is an artist. Besides touring as many art museums as possible, Giverney is also on the list. We also want to go to Versaille and were wondering if it is possible to do both on the same day? (Giverney in A.M. and Versaille inP.M. -- any train connections?)

Dear Sue
I don't think this will work.
From Paris to Versailles Rive Gauche is the RER (suburban) train system.

SNCF trains from Vernon (station closest to Giverny) to the Versailles Rive Droite station leave Vernon at 1254 or 1447 and arrive at Versailles RD approximately 90 minutes later. I am not sure about transportation from the RD station in Versailles to the Chateau, whether it's walkable or if you would need a taxi. (The RER Rive Gauche station is only about half a mile from the Chateau.)
From the Versailles Rive Gauche station you can get a train leaving at 1336 or 1506 to Vernon, but the time varies from 90 minutes to 3 hours (!) depending on which train.
I also checked Cityrama and Paris Vision which offer bus tours, and they don't combine the two locations in one day trip.
if you want to check the trains yourself, go to www.sncf.fr, and click on the Union Jack symbol for English if you prefer it.

In September I took 10 women to France, and did the research. The train connections are totally impossible to do Versailles and Giverny in the same day. One or the other location gets shorted on time.
The alternatives are: rent a car; rent a car and driver; take a bus tour through Parisvision or Cityrama (there may be others, but those are the two companies I know).
