Looking for reccomendations for a hotel in Vernoa. We won't have a car so best area for that. We will have two nights there the end of April. With staying two nights will it be doable to see Lake Garda as well, thinking of taking the cable car ride up the Mountain.
I have looked at Trip advisor and Venure but always appreciate the reccomendations from all of you as I am not always sure how trustworthy the sites are. Also is it possible to be close to the train station and still walkable to shops and restuarants or do we need to bus into the city. Thanks in advance for any and all help!!

In August 2010 we spent one night in the Grand Hotel. It is an easy 10-miute wal (all flat and sidewalks) from the mainail station and it is also within a very few minutes of the arena (we were there for a performance of "Carmen.")

We had a good experience, clean room, and the included breakfast servein the lower floor breakfast room was extensive and pleasant.

Staff was helpful; city bus stop right outside the front door.

Hope you find something wonderful as I am sure there will be many other recommendations on your post.

Verona ok not great for me just a nice centre and arena

We stayed at the little Hotel Torcolo. It's just a few steps from Piazza Bra and the amphitheater.

It's certainly not fancy, but we were very pleased with it. The staff were extremely helpful, and we loved Verona.

We didn't have a car, and took the bus from the train station with no problem.

We stayed at the Gabbia D'oro 2 years ago for one night. We absolutely loved the hotel and Verona.
We coud walk to everything.
We had a car, so I cannot recall location of train station.

If it is opera season, they do raise their rates by quite a bit.

The Hotel Torcolo is located in a tiny, quiet Piazza of its own about a one minute walk from Piazza Bra and the same from the pedestrian only and upscale Via Mazzini that will lead you to Piazza Erbe, the beating heart of Verona. There are many restaurants nearby including a local, well priced gem directly across the street. The Torcolo's rooms are basic, clean and nice. Breakfast is either optional or required depending on the season and although there is no room service or luggage help, there is an elevator. The heart of the hotel however and a primary reason for making the Torcolo your residence in Verona are the two sweet ladies, Sylvia and Diana who own the hotel and Caterina, who is usually on in the afternoon. They will go far beyond what is expected to suggest things to see and do as well as places to eat. They seem to get real joy and pleasure in assuring a good stay for their guests. Sylvia says that when she retires, she will just sit in Piazza Bra and give advice to tourists. I can believe that.

I've stayed at the Gabbia d'Oro twice will attending the summer opera at the amphitheater. Everything was walkable. Thought the hotel was terrific in fact one year I think we booked our tickets through them.
