Vermont - thanks but no thanks
Vermont? Thank you, but you are a little Europe imitation with cheese making, skying and white prejudiced people who are so afraid of drak foreigners taking over. We have enough of those here, to go visit you in Vermont. I vote Miami, baby, and New York and the beauty of the Western Plains and Rockies and all, but Vermont? It was the most horrifying experience of my life - synthetic in its niceness.

Maybe this would be better posted on the U.S. Board, but I was in Vermont for a long weekend this month, my first time visiting there, and I want to respond to this post.

I didn't get the impression that the Vermonters are tyring to be an imitation of Europe - rather they are pursuing their own historical and regional occupations and pastimes (cheese, skiing, outdoor sports, etc.). I found the people to be very nice, friendly and rather laid back. I don't know what you mean about their fearing "drak [dark?] foreigners taking over". Ilsi, can you be more specific about what happened to you while you were there? "Synthetic in its niceness", maybe a little. It's hard to believe such a pastoral setting isn't manufactured, but that is what America once was, agricultural. I did notice many visitors from overseas touring the area.

I'm sorry to hear that you had the most horrifying experience of your life in Vermont, but I'd be interesting in knowing why. I'm not trying to be defensive or or start a war here. Just curious!

I am very sorry about posting this message, it was my first time on the board and I wanted to post for a discussion where people shared why Americans want to visit Europe and vice versa. One of the persons on this little ardently invited others to come to Vermont. I wanted to reply and clicked the wrong button. All I wanted to say was that I found Vermont to be the most unoriginal place on earth.
I found suspicious that people treated me with a strange deference once they found out I was Swiss. I found it outright revolting to have two or three people complain about the disspearance of the "their traditional culture" - a complaint that was echoed in the message on this board (the one inviting people to come to Vermont) that stated that it was one of the few place where the quickly disspearing American mentality still exists. I do not like the overtones of such messages!
Here is the story, somewhat hectic I admit. I apologize for antagonizing the wrong people with a message that was meant to be a reply.

I'm surprised ilsi didn't segue into bashing homosexuals in light of the gay marriage controversy. Vermont is beautiful in the fall. And being that I grew up in Florida in the 70's - Miami is still an arm pit. A wonderful Latino armpit, but none the less, an armpit. But what about South Beach you say? 21 blocks long, 2 blocks deep and a coat of paint. If you want synthetic - Florida is the place.
