venice to Malpensa

I am flying out from Malpensa, Milan, at 13.30 on the 30th September.
I will be getting to Malpensa from Venice, by train. I understand there is a shuttle from Milan train station to some airport hotels and to the airport.
Do I have time to leave Venice on the morning of the 30th, travel to Milan, then get the shuttle to Malpensa? What could go wrong?
Or should I go the night before, and book an airport hotel near Malpensa, in which case - how late can I arrive in Milan from Venice and still catch a shuttle from Milan train station to my airport hotel?
Any recommendations for a budget hotel near Malpensa?

Check out Novotel Milano Malpensa Airport -- a relatively new hotel with shuttle service to MXP. They offer specials and you can sometimes get a room for 80 euros or so.

Yes, it is possible to do all your travel on that day. There's a train leaving Venice at 6:30 am, arriving in Milano Centrale at 9:05 am. And as you already know, you'd take the shuttle onward to the airport. It usually takes about an hour for this trip, however it's best to allow more time for unforseen traffic slowdowns.

Personally, I'd feel more comfortable spending the night in Milan (or surrounding town) prior to departure from MXP on 9/30.

What could go wrong? Let's see .... your alarm clock or wake-up call might not work and you'd oversleep, missing that early train. There could be a train strike on the 30th .... of course, you could check online as they usually give advance notice for strikes.

Thanks Tess and Yes,

I agree, I think I'd feel happier getting there the night before.

Hello cape, here is the official website for the Milan/Malpensa shuttle bus. It is a comfortable and clean bus. Your luggage is put in the luggage area underneath the bus. Personally, in that trains in Italy can sometimes run late etc., I would go to Milan the afternoon before versus on the day of your flight. Anyway, for your review and information.

Wishing you a beautiful time in Italy!

IMO you have plenty of time to get there the same day. Trains between Venice & Milan are very frequent.
