Venice to Lile France by Car

My husband and I have a lease car for 7 weeks in Italy, Croatia and back to Lile in France.

While I have watche advise on many sectors of our planned trip the one sector is not yet planned. As there seems to be so many optons in limited time frame.

We would like to drive from Venice to Lile in France - taking about 8 days. Would like to focus on Switzerland staying a couple of nighs in a couple of places - this is really a quick look/overview to an area we may return. Budget has also to be considered as I understand Switzerland is expensive.

Something like Venice to Como
Como Zermatt
Day in Zermatt
Zermatt to Murren
Day in Murren
Murren to somewhere in France Alsace or Colana area have been mentioned
Say above
Above to Lile to surrender our rental car.

At this stage of our trip I think I will be over museums but enjoy the scenery, culture, food and wine. We are in our late 50's but can clip along at a reasonable pace!

Grateful for suggestions as I really have no idea of distances etc

Did you price out the rental to include a drop-off fee, as you plan to p/u in Italy and d/o in France..?

Travelnut,

It's a lease so that it is most likely a French car with no drop-off fee. There would be one, just like there is a pick-up fee, if taking place outside France.

The car is a Euro Lease car which had a special deal on if booked before 31 March. The deal was we could select a pickup or dropoff in several locations outside of France without additional fees. For booking the car for more than 21 days we also get another 7 for free!!! We are flying into Milan and have opted to drop off in Lille to allow us to visit a relatives grave site in the battle of Some in Brussells before departing back to London and home.
Hope I get some replies about the journey through Switzerland!

We live near the Southern Alps in New Zealand and drive through the pass in Summer and Winter weather pemitting. Familiar with Mountain driving and changing conditions.
Just need to have recommendations for a 4-5 day itinerary.

For distances and route planning the 2 best tools are:

http://maps.google.com

http://viamichelin.com

I like Google for a quick look or basic overview and Michelin
for fine tuning routes, looking for hotels/restos on the route etc.
