Venice to Frankfort - via Switzerland?

We are a family of four (2 boys ages 11 and 12) and we are trying to plan an itinerary from Venice to Frankfort - we have 9 days and want to include probably 3 nights in Venice. We are arriving from Gdansk, Poland via Bergama. That's a lot of territory - I know! I was thinking of hiking or biking near the Matterhorn (Zermatt), then the Interlaken vicinity and up to Frankfort via Heidelberg where we can do a day bike ride. I was born at the military hospital in Heidelberg which is what is driving the stop there. Not required. �� Switzerland is very daunting. When I visited as a preteen with my grandparents I remember thinking it was the prettiest place I had ever seen (Lucerne and the Black Forest - I know Germany.). We like activities. My sons like the Brothers Grimm. Any ideas for cities or villages, places to stay or things to do with active boys (parents like wine and cheese!). We are traveling at the beginning of August.
